Every method has its pros and cons. Splitting your workout does prevent the issue of whether cardio should come first or second and if whether it inhibits building muscles depending on the order. But as DragonChile below said, your diet is the primary method of losing weight.

It's not. There are tons of tricks and tips for "maximizing weight loss" but realistically, weight loss isn't about exercise. Exercise is critical for overall health, and makes weight loss easier (allowing you to eat more and still lose) but to maximize weight loss, track your food accurately (with a scale) and set reasonable goals to really maximize progress.

I'm not sure what you mean either by splitting the workouts. I prefer to do all of my cardio early in the morning and then doing my strength training in the afternoon/evening (at home on my non-run days).

Do you mean splitting cardio sessions into multiple shorter sessions done on the same day? Or do you mean doing a strength training body-part split on different days?
Multiple cardio sessions per day does help, according to some studies. Body-part splits probably don't affect fat loss very much.

I found an article that suggested splitting workouts for maximum weight loss. Their explanation actually made a lot of sense. Have you tried it? Do you think it's necessary to split workouts?
