I would try some restorative yoga poses, just listen to your body and take it slow. As you start to gain flexibility and strength, you could start to add more rigorous styles of yoga. I've had a spinal fusion and I find yoga to be the best exercise for my back. You can find free videos on youtube, watch it first, then try it, if you like it repeat the same video until you're completely comfortable and see improvement, and then try some other videos.

Hey, I really appreciate the concern! I have been seen by doctors (Mayo) and PT's for years for my back. I'm looking for ideas of what has worked for you. I have learned moves I can not make and my back lets me know pretty quickly that something isn't gonna work. Right now I'm doing arm exercises with 5# weights on the ball. Tonight's goal is 10 minutes and I made it!!!!!!

I agree with the other posts. My chiropractor gave me specific stretches to do for my hips. It makes a difference.
I agree you may want to get this info from your doctor. In the last 6 months I started seeing a chiropractor for hip issues, and he recommended specific stretches and strength training exercises for specific issues I was having, and as they evolved/lessened/moved he would update what I should and shouldn't do. It was very personalized and specific and helped me figure out what worked best for my unique situation, but for someone with a different situation the advice may vary.
Have you been cleared by a doctor for exercise? And you may want to get a referral to a physical therapist to help work on exercises you can do with you current limitations. I know there are chair exercises and limited mobility groups but you should get medical clearance for exercise first as any suggestions provided here may cause more issues.

HELP!!!!!! I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back and bursitis in both hips. Since my mobility is limited by both my weight and years of sedentary lifestyle, I want to start moving again. Any ideas for exercising and stretching that won't irritate the DDD or bursitis? We started 2014 with tracking food and activities.
