WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Hi Cynthia! I started about the same time as you and I love it too. I have not joined any challenges (not sure how yet) and I was intrigued with your type of weight training. I know I need to do that but I don't know how. Do you have any suggestions?

Congratulations on making the decision to get healthy! You're already off to a great start - you've designed your home page, so people can visit you and get to know you and support you! And you've joined a few teams - posting on the message boards of your teams is a great way to meet people and make friends. Personally, I find that my Spark friends are my biggest motivation!
Cynthia, with the program you describe, you should be seeing at least a small drop in your weight. Are you tracking your food? Could be you are taking in more calories than you realize. It's important to watch portion control, and tracking everything you eat will help you to be sure you're not going over your calorie goal. On your start page there's a link where you can enter your present weight and your goal, and it will tell you how many calories you can have a day.
Also I highly recommend you track your exercise too. These two trackers are great tools to help you reach your goal.

Hi Everyone, I am pretty new to spark people but so far I love it. The reports are awesome. I am in a transformation challenge that starts on September 26th. It is a 12 week body transformation that includes eating and working out with weights. I am 51 and quit smoking about 12 years ago. That is when I started to put on weight. I have always been in good shape and my weight was always in control even after my 3 kids. So now over 10 years later here I am 65 lbs. over weight saying to myself "how did I let this happen" that is why I am starting this transformation process. I am ready now to once and for all win my battle of the bulge.
I have chose to follow a system that is designed to get me the best results in a 12 week period by eating 5-6 mini meals a day (around 300 cals a day) and incorporate weight training with specific reps and sets including squats 3x per week and a 1-2 mile walk 3-4 times per week. I have cut out all processed foods and only eat whole foods.
I have actually been on this diet and exercise plan now for 5 days and already find myself hating the scale cuz it has not budged. This is where it is difficult for me because my expectations are so high as well as the motivation. I am very determined to stick with the process and be patient with myself and try not to step on that scale but once a week when it is time to document. I will keep everyone posted to progress.
