Try using unsweetened applesauce instead of oil and you can usually get away with only using half the amount of sugar in a recipe or doing half splenda/half sugar.

My banana nut bread has a whole lot of vegetable oil, sugar, and white bread. Scary stuff. And I'm eating like three slices a day. But yeah, I'll try it with whole wheat and brown sugar. Good idea!

ZAHRA35,

If you find yourself tempted by some of the baked goods you make, just remember the happiness they'll bring to the person you give them too.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with banana bread either as long as you are mindful of the portion. Spark People isn't about deprivation or dieting. It's all about moderation and portion control. a slice of banana bread, fries, cookies, chips, etc.. CAN all be a part of a healthy lifestyle as long as you watch the portion.

I can't imagine living a life where I wasn't allowed to eat something because I was afraid I'd gain weight. That's not healthy either. that's a diet.

Moderation, not deprivation or guilt.

What's wrong with banana bread? There's some great low fat, low cal recipes for banana bread on Spark Recipes.

I eat a homemade muffin or banana/zucchini bread nearly every morning for breakfast. It hasn't affected my weight loss at all. Unless you're worried about binge eating. I always adapt my recipes and use brown sugar, less than the recipe calls for. If the recipe calls for more than 1 egg, I use liquid egg beaters and I use wheat/oat bran and whole wheat flour. My banana breads are only 80-100 cals per serving. Nuts are a healthy fat.

To avoid emotional eating. Plan out when you're going to eat it well in advanced.

I baked this for Thanksgiving and I have to give it away to my aunt. Hopefully she's not on a diet. I trained myself to loathe banana bread. I think I can control myself though. There are other means of finding happiness and savoring the pleasures of life. For example, I like to relax with sounds of nature and hypnosis. I keep emotionally healthy through self help. I strive for my goals and do my job search and run my business for happiness. I go over my accomplishments at the end of the day and feel proud. Other sources of happiness is reading books. Spirituality helps too. I feel good about myself when I exercise. The euphoria gets me going. Also there's socializing... So many outlets for comfort other than banana nut bread!
