Thank you everyone!! Day one down.. many ahead, but we have to take this one day at a time. We started going to the gym again tonight and started by walking on the tredmill.. I know we can do this... we just have to do it together, and stay focused.
You're definitely in the right place. SparkPeople has great tools with Nutrition Tracker to keep up with calories and fat grams as well as cholesterol in your diet and it has some great articles and videos to help you figure out what need to do to improve your diet and lifestyle. Also, the main fitness page has lots of help to get you started on exercises and the My Fitness Tracker will keep up with it all for you. There are tools to help stay motivated too like the inspirational Motivator Spark Pages. So I'm glad you're here. And if you find you'd like more structure in your SparkPeople program you may want to consider SparkCoach. It's been great for me. Whatever your path and Keep Sparking!
It's bad news that you guys have high cholesterol and that you have hypertension, but it's very good that you found out now so that you can avoid bad stuff in the future. Better to know so you can do something about it...
Make small changes and keep plugging away at things and you can definitely succeed. You just have to be patient and persistent.

I have the same halthy issues and let me tell you changing your life WILL make it better!!!! I take a bunch of medication and losing weight will make it to wear I can get off of a few!!! Good luck and just remember there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Welcome to Spark People ! I'm going to give you and your hubby one piece of advice I give to all new members and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself was drink 8 glasses of water today, that's still a step in the right direction.
Remember, you're trying to change habits learned over a life time. That's not going to happen overnight, a week, a month or even a year. Change takes time. Thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body.
Take baby steps literally and figuratively. start with small changes first. because if you try to do everything at once, you will end up frustrated.
Slow and easy really does win this race. AND... don't tie your emotions to the scale. The scale is only one way to measure success and it's not the best. As others have said, you are going to see many ups and downs as you lose. And that's perfectly normal.
You're going to do just fine !

Best wishes for changing over to a healthy lifestyle. Expect ups and downs because that honestly is how it goes over the long term. The important thing is not to quit or give up just because of the bumps!

You can do this! It took a diagnosis of hypertension for me to see my way to better health. That was 8 years ago and I am still on the bandwagon...Perfect, nope, but remember you don't have to have a perfect diet to have a healthy lifestyle.
Best wishes on bringing around some good, healthy changes. Better to know this now, and be able to fix it - versus not knowing and it getting worse. Good that you are doing it together and you have each other's support. Again - the best to you!

So my husband and I recently had to do blood work and all that jazz, and turns out our cholestorol is astronomical, and my blood pressure is alarmingly high.. We have vowed to make this change together.. I'm praying we can stay strong as a couple, and it brings us closer together..
