This time of year you can usually find back-to-school sales on shoes especially if your state has a tax-free weekend. Otherwise I have had really good luck at Ross also. Other places may be TJ Maxx or Kohls'. They get "older models" of brand name shoes and sell much lower. It's definitely worth it to have a good pair of shoes. Good luck and congrats on your start on SP.
I walk in a $15-20 pair of Keds-type shoes from Ross and they're great. I think they're better than most "walking shoes" due to their lower heel and thinner, more flexible sole, which makes them more ergonomically correct. If i need extra cushioning, i'll slip in a $8 pair of Spenco Comfort insoles. They are thin and don't take up much space. If you need extra support (for flat feet, etc), you can slip in a pair of Superfeet insoles ($35). Take out the stock insole before using it.
Not sure where you are located but Famous Footwear and Kohls usually have coupons and specials and they have good walking shoes. You Do need good support and may need to spend a little more but you may be able to find a way to save some.
What were you wearing before you bought the new shoes? Can you find another pair like your old ones?

Unfortunately, when it comes to shoes, you really get what you pay for. You simply cannot get quality shoes that aren't name brand. You can, however, shop sales for older model name brand shoes. Don't you think it's worth saving for better shoes than to have to pay a doctor to get an injury fixed?
Hi, I just started Sparking. I walk for exercise. I can't afford a lot of money for shoes and bought a pair of Athletech from K mart on sale. Long story short, today my feet and legs hurt! I'm not a beginner at walking, and walk abour 2 miles a day in the evening. I know its from the shoes, they are the correct size but little support. Anyone know of any less expensive or store brands that have better support.? I can't afford sports store or mall prices. Inserts make the foot bed of the shoe to short rubbing blisters on the top of my feet. I'd like to walk comfortably.
