Earlier I updated my status to baby stepping but I am one of those weirdos who take this somewhat as a woohoo. That is because my life experience has shown me that this type of consistency is the only way to achieve something great. Don't get me wrong. I feel a lot of disappointment in my one pound a week, but that is more of a natural reaction like darn I didn't win the lottery again. The bottom line is that the baby steps have no choice but to get me to my goal.

Me too, I Love instant gratification! But getting healthy is a lifelong commitment and if we take Small Steps it will be easier to maintain because its not a drastic change all in one; so they say. Me; I keep looking at these shorts and am angrily wondering why I can't get them buttoned yet.

Small steps definitely help people stick to lifestyle changes, but you also have to pick a pace that works for you. There is nothing that says you can't make one change in your diet and one change in your exercise habits each week, and if you feel comfortable, add another of each next week. Within a month you will have made significant changes to your everyday routine. I know it's not overnight, but that first month will fly by.

In the begining I tried to focus on nsv like my skin looked brighter or I drank more than 8 glasses of water. Good luck on your journey!

BRWNEYZ79, I am right there with you. In the past month I have seen great losses on the scale (losing about 2.5-1.5 lbs per week) but then during the past two weeks it's been like .20 or .50 lbs per week.
I know it's really discouraging but I'm trying to tell myself that at least I'm in a better place than I was a week ago and the scale IS moving in the right direction. Also, everyone says that slow weight loss is much more likely to result in you being able to maintain it over the long term.

I know it's frustrating. I blame the late night infomercials and grocery store health rags. They have people convinced that they can change their body in 30-90 days. Well, that's just not typical. Most people don't see the weight magically drop off the minute they decide they need to lose. And when people don't lose as quickly as the contestants on the Biggest Loser, they wonder what they are doing wrong. Well, they're not doing anything wrong and neither are you.
You just need to be more patient. that's a problem with Americans. They don't want to be patient anymore. they want instanteous results and when they don't get them. they get frustrated.
Keep taking those small steps. with patience, those small steps will become habit. but, it really does take time to change those habits.
Patience, it's a virtue.

Logically I understand the importance of slow and steady, small steps that turn into a big journey. SMALL STEPS. But when I try to go slow and take it a step at a time I get frustrated with the slow steady pace - and fall off all together because I want it all to happen. Now, yesterday really... frustrated.
