This is great information, thanks to everyone! Now I know I don't have to worry about keeping these race registration emails forever...

I ran a Susan G Komen race in October last year... my race registration fee was NOT tax deductible. Any other donations I made on TOP of that were, but not the fee itself.

The race registration itself is not tax deductible, however, in races where you are required to fund-raise, those donations are tax deductible if the organization has 501(c) status. Check with race organizers.

You're not making a donation. You're paying for a service, which you are receiving.

Check with the organisers, but I would doubt that this would be considered a "tax deductible donation" in any portion.

You would have to consult the sign up, or the organizer's of the events. A lot of times there is a portion that is tax deductible, but not the entire fee. Most of the time at least a portion of the fee goes to the supplies and necessities, so just ask them what portion is tax deductible, and ask for a receipt.

My sister and I have set a goal to run a 5K every month in 2012. We're doing a 5K and a 3K in April to make up for not doing one in January. Every one that we sign up for is benefitting a charity of some kind. Are we able to submit these entry receipts for tax donations on our taxes next year?
