Thanks for all the replies. Very informative. And it is curious that a tapeworm can survive.

The seeds won't digest. Consider it good fiber - the kind that brushes the stuff you don't want out of your system. Nothing wrong at all with eating the seeds.

Aside from the hostile environment in your digestive tract, your stomach empties every few hours so a seed wouldn't have time to plant itself in your stomach even if it wanted to!!!!

There's absolutely no reason to remove the seeds (other than not liking the texture)

Is this like the old wives tale that said that I shouldn't swallow gum because it would get stuck on my ribs, forever.

well, I think I can say with some authority that I do not have a grape vine growing in my stomach because goodness knows how many grape seeds I've ingested in my life time. not to mention wax lips, apple seeds, gum, pixie sticks, etc...

LOL !!!

Okay, here's what I vaguely remember from Biology class. The human stomach is loaded with HCL i.e. hydrochloric acid. That's the acid our body uses to break down food in our stomachs.

Believe me, there is no way a grape vine could grow in such a toxic environment. As it is, I'm not sure how tape worms manage. too bad I fell asleep during that lecture. teehee.

However, I do think it's safe to say a grape vine won't grow in your tummy if you swallow the seeds.

Some seeds might upset your tummy, but they won't germinate.

Grape seeds are probably ok ... but dont eat the following seeds.(Apple seeds, cherry stones, and the kernels inside the pits of apricots, nectarines, peaches, and plums.)

I discovered when I was studying in Italy several years ago that they eat the grapes with the seeds in, crunch crunch. One of my friends was eating them with her host family and picking out the seeds as I've seen most Americans do (if they HAVE to eat seedy grapes), and her host mother told her she ate like a child.

So obviously THEY don't think they're harmful...

Yes, they will make you die, wh-ha-ha! (I'm just kidding!) I don't think there is anything wrong with eating grape seeds.

I don't think a seed can germinate in your stomach. : ) I remember a "Rugrats" episode from Nickelodeon from my childhood that centered around one of the babies swallowing a watermelon seed and worrying it was going to grow out of control in their stomachs. And many fruits evolved to be really sweet so birds and animals would eat them at their peak of ripeness and disseminate their seeds in that animals' excretions.

So unless you are eating A LOT, I don't see any problem with eating them!

I freeze grapes with seeds and use them in smoothies. Are the seeds harmful to you? I have read grapes/seeds are a good antioxidant. I have also read that the seeds don't digest and (what I consider outlandish) you'll have grape vines growing in your stomache.
