I like your sig too! That is so inspirational. When my husband was in his early 40's he was trying to decide if he was too old to get braces on his teeth. Using a quote I had heard before, I think it was Ann Landers, I asked him how old would he be in 3 years if he didnt get the braces. He decided to get them and has been happy ever since with his teeth.

Goosiemoon, I love your siggy. I wrote it down to remind myself, because one of my biggest hurdles is thinking this will take to long to lose the weight. I am one of those people that seem to think if it's not instant, it's gonna take too long!! Thankyou for sharing that!!
Yes. I have lost 6 pounds since I started. I have a hard time with exercise, especially cardio with my spine problems but I am working out the best I can with swimming. I also go to spine therapy and work out on machines for my core. Slow and steady!

So far, so good. I weighed myself at my MIL's on Sunday and i was 239#. I went to the Dr. today and weighed in at 231 # so it was either all water weight or tracking my food and exercising is working!! Either way i'll take it!! YAY!!!
Today is the last day of my first week. My plan is to weigh weekly, but I've snuck in a weigh here and there I did today as a matter of fact. Unfortunately I didn't see a loss and it discouraged me somewhat. Still I took it with a grain of salt because I feel thinner, and I'm not bloated. I will weigh again tomorrow and be glad with what I find. Wish me luck!

I have lost weight. I didn't think I would because it's been so hard for the last several years. I had been using the classic American Diabetes recommended diet, with the backing of various diabetes educators. Nada! Zilch! and I had such cravings for everything from cookies, brownies, ice cream, massed potatoes, etc. When I looked at SP i noticed there were several forums about glycemic index. I began looking at them, following the advice, and looking for outside reading materials. I've lost weight, my cravings are gone, and I feel so much better. Today my Aa1c was down to 6.7 from 7.8. I really feel like I'm on the right track.

Sure have. I am following the Dukan Diet and have lost about 25 pounds. I have been really sick the past few days and have gone off the diet, but plan on jumping right back as soon as the doc says it is OK. I plan on reaching my goal weight by the Canadian Thanksgiving, which is the 2nd Monday in October. I love SP as there are different tools to use, teams to join (including a Dukan Diet one) and great support thru SparkFriends. My friends have helped me thru lots, as I have helped them.

When I started my diet I weighed 230lbs. Last week I joined Spark people to get different ideas on how to have more success. Last week when I started I weighed 193.1. I have been using the food tracker and have been excited about entering my exercising daily!! I weighed myself this morning and I now weigh 189.6!! I am excited because now I am out of the 190's so I have conquered another goal in my weight loss!! I think this website is really helpful!! I really hope you are doing great as well!!!

No luck for me. I had been working so hard. From 7/21 till now I lost about 18 pounds. I still have 10 to lost,but just keep there; looks stop on 140- 143 for 2-3 weeks.....

I agree, there is no luck in losing weight. It is all about choices. Choices in your food, and your exercise. I like knowing that my hard work is causing me to lose weight, not luck!
coming off very slowly... lose a bit, plateau a bit, lose, plateau.. takes time as long as your getting healthier and the pounds are going towards your goal in the long run... don't worry too much. When you're stressed about the scale, you won't lose as easily.

Yes and No. Yes I been losing weight 22lbs since May, but it is coming off very very very slow. I hit 4 plateaus in 6 and half months!! I try to keep my chin up by reminding myself than at least I have not gain any weight back. Each time I got through the plateau by changing up my exercise routine. Also I keep track what I eat most days, excluding only Weddings, BBQ, & holidays. I tried to but it is hard to remember everything you ate when you are at a Wedding or party.
I have lost 6.5 lbs since the middle of October! I am really excited about this. I have purposely made my target goal weight to take 6 months (want to be at my goal weight by April) though I know most people would try and do it more quickly. I didn't want to feel pressured to lose quickly. I also don't weigh myself more than 1x/week and preferably less than that. I figure if I don't focus on weighing a certain amount but rather on being healthy, then I have a better chance of maintaining this new LIFESTYLE (not a diet, remember?) over the long haul.I try to look at reaching other goals and changing my habits on a daily basis rather than only the end result. I can't change what the scale says/doesn't say, but I CAN change what I eat and whether I exercise! Stick with it--we need our society to be healthy!

I've lost 23 pounds in 3 months. I'm averaging 1.5 pounds or so per week but there were some when I lost more and some when I lost none. It takes time and patience and a change in your mindset as someone else already said.

6.4 in 3 weeks. Did great my first week with just over 3lbs. Second week was a dud with just under 1 lb. Third week gave me the rest. I think my body went into shock that 2nd week. I am actually having trouble eating ENOUGH. Can't believe that but trying to incorporate more good food to get my metabolism back up. Keep up the good work everyone!
started mid April and weight loss was relatively fast initially (beating the tracker). Have lost over 30lbs since then. Have another 12 to go but it is slow now. Some weeks no change (but not up at least) otherwise not even one pound. But I can fit into my old jeans and a size 8 fits easily - and can zip up that little black dress without feeling like I am holding anything in!
Happy Lisa - I hadn't thought about the winter thing - you may be right. A predisposed propensity to store fat for the winter ahead. Still, it makes me shudder! But, one neat thing I've found happening inside my own head. I'm actually plotting like an evil character how to sneak in exercise throughout the day to up the chances! From toe raises (for the caves) while waiting to talk to the physician I work for, to booty kicks while loading the dishwasher, and even doing tricep kickbacks everytime I'm in the bathroom....I'm moving ALL I can. Also, my son got a new bike, and he wants to ride it constantly, so it's a great motivator to get out and walk while he enjoys the bike - and great for our relationship (he's 15). Either way, I"m NOT giving up! Thanks for your comments!
Babynurse, I wonder if your slower weight loss is due to winter coming up. This is the worst time of the year to expect weight loss - but at least you have that 12 pounds off to be happy about.
I know what you mean about not understanding why the weight isn't coming off when we are doing everything right. It gets to be so frustrating that it is tempting to simply eat the whole pizza since it doesn't seem to matter anyway. But in the morning, on the scale, it really does matter. . . .
I restarted on Aug 30 - lost 12 pounds the first month. However, this last 3 weeks, I've only lost 3 pounds. Not understanding it - tracking my food, exercising (maybe even more then the first month), drinking water...the weight just isn't budging. My clothes are feeling much looser, and I'm feeling more confident, so I guess I just need to focus on those positive changes!

My pants are fitting more comfortably. Also, I have moved from XL shirts to L. Woo Hoo. I have been buying "winter" type clothes and have been able to get size L. So far I've lost 6 pounds. It is amazing how a small loss can make a difference.
