I live in UK and watch the programme. I was sceptical about the diet swap, but it does seem to work as each person realises how dreadful their diet is when they have to give that food (or lack of it) to someone else. They follow up on some of the people a year later, but you don't get to hear how most of them get on. I'm surprised Dr C doesn't think he's muscular. I'm sorta jumping around seasons right now. I can do without Anna Richardson's quest-I have nothing against her but the whole perfect body thing is getting on my nerves. I have always loved Gillian McKeith (since she was on You Are What You Eat) but her latest quest is annoying me too. I do like the series otherwise (I know it doesn't seem like it, but I am).

I've never seen this and I'm not very intersted in seeing it. However, I do find it interesting that no matter how much information there is out there, people often don't really have a clue whether they overeat, or undereat, compared to what should be "normal."
I was overweight throughout most of my youth. I remember when I was 18, I had a roommate who was tall and very very thin. She said she could not gain weight! She told me that she "eats like a pig" and still could not gain! Yet, I know what it is to eat like a pig and I knew that is what caused me to be overweight! Compared to me, she seemed to eat almost nothing!
I watched this roommate eat. Seemed like one half of a baked potato and a couple of bites of veggies and a couple of bites of meat. And she'd report she was stuffed and could not eat another bite! At that time, I think she really thought she ate a lot compared to others.
I used to work with this overweight woman who told me that she cannot lose weight no matter what, and she "eats like a bird." I watched her eat at our 10:00 break every day. She would always be sure to announce she had not eaten any breakfast, then she'd proceed to have a bagel with what seemed like a half pound of cream cheese on it! And she didn't stop there if there were donuts or whatever.. I have struggled with weight too, but I guess one thing I always knew was why I was overweight. I knew the reason and there is no denying it. I fully believe this is the reason for the vast majority of overweight among us: taking in more calories than we burn on a regular basis.
The Doc has too much space between his eyebrows, just overplucked. I suspected he was gay just looking at his outfits. Just stuff no straight guy should wear, British or not. I don't see the attraction anyway. Anywho... I'm completely addicted to the show too. I also recently stumbled onto it on Youtube, probably recommended after I saw some nutrition videos for my class. One thing that bothers me about the show is how the Doc gets it right with the Superskinnies but the narrator seems to obsessively dwell on weight and calories. She always has to say in a dire voice "Superskinny Emma subsists on meager portions of only 1500 calories a day, what a 5 year old child should eat!" As a grown, slim and healthy woman, my calorie needs are around 1600 per day and I'm not even as thin as the skinnies on the show. The Doc correctly focuses on the fact that they are eating poor calories in the form of fats and sugar. It's actually shocking to me that these skinnies don't gain weight with 1500 calores of mostly fat and sugar a day. When you eat a balanced diet of lean meats, whole grains and legumes and 5-7 servings of fruit and veg you can easily eat well below 1500 calories per day and be an energetic, healthy weighted individual. When they focus on their diets, the weight becomes almost unimportant. You are at risk due to malnutriton, not being very thin or being very heavy. Those are visible symptoms of a disorder not a risk factor in and of itself. I do very much appreciate what they are trying to do with the show and they are showing a balance of eating disorders instead of just shaming one or the other. I'm not a huge fan of the shaming of the American obese they feature on the show but I suspect that is mostly in the editing or people wouldn't be agreeing to participate. Unless they are getting paid for it of course. I know I wouldn't agree to be used as a "Fix your life or you will be as horribly sick and useless as that lady right there" example. :/
Yes, it's partly for shock value so both parties can see their diet through someone else's eyes. But at the end of the day they still receive diet plans and both participants are always given a complete physical to make sure they're physically up to the challenge.
When I first started watching I had the same question : how is shoving their diets into the face of their 'opponents' going to teach them anything? But... apparently it does.
I just watched one episode on Youtube.com and I don't understand the purpose. If both sides are eating a poor diet, how does switching eating patterns help either one? It looks more like a show for shock value than for education.
damn... my gaydar is broken. I always thought he was just... weird looking... don't get me wrong, I'm gay too, but I don't like that guy at all, there's something really creepy and scary about him... Now I'll have nightmares. I'm happy for him, though LOL...
Haha, I'd forgotten I'd posted this until I got an email notification of a reply. I only have a few brain cells left, you see, and they don't always work properly.
I don't know if it's on a network or not, I've always just watched it on youtube. I sort of stumbled across it one day. It's a great show that pairs up an overweight/obese person against someone who rarely eats (skin and bones) and they stay in Dr. Christian Jessen's 'feeding clinic' for a few days to try and rearrange their diets. At the end of their stay, they're each given a new diet plan. Then they're sent on their way for 2 months to eat according to their new plans and then they come back to the feeding clinic after that time has passed to see if the supersize has lost and the superskinny has gained.
The most amusing part of the show, in my opinion, is when the two swap diets. They have to eat each others' diet during the time they're staying in the feeding clinic. So most of the time, superskinny has to deal with eating massive amounts of food while supersize sits there with barely anything at all.
Bottom line is the show is basically a wake-up call for people who have horribly poor eating habits.
I'm completely addicted to that show. I don't watch TV (except on my lazy Sunday's where I do nothing but hole up in my room and watch DVD's all day) but I watch a lot of shows on youtube and several months ago I came across Supersize vs Superkinny. I've been hooked ever since. I've watched (as far as I know) every episode and just finished the newest one, season 6 episode 6. I watch them mostly because it interests me to see both sides of the spectrum come face to face with each other and also to see the eating habits of strangers.
I've also watched Big Meets Bigger, but I don't think there are a whole lot of episodes of that show.
Anyone else watch these shows? If so, why do you watch them?
