How challenging are physique 57 dvd workouts compared to the real class?

Well... P57 and PopPhysique both have a lot of pilates influence and aren't really classical ballet barre work.
If you want something like that, I've heard good things about the Ballet Beautiful series: http://www.amazon.com/Ballet-Beautiful-Tot

When I first started, I used Element Ballet - much more classically focused:

Hope this helps!

Hi! I also looove barre and can't afford to take classes anymore. I hope I'm not hijacking your thread if I ask a related question... would you say the DVDs you've used have much ballet influence? I've been to two different barre classes, both had lots of variety (pilates, a little cardio, isometric/resistance exercises) but one barely had any ballet influence where the other one had a little more ballet-inspired moves (pliés, different foot/arm positions, etc.). This might be difficult to judge and I'm kind of explaining it awkwardly but do you have any input?

You don't need a barre - I just use a dining chair and it works great for me.
For Physique 57, I use a set of 5 & 8 pound weights. P57 uses a playground ball (which comes with the set) and a thick mat (I use a couch cushion). For PopPhysique, I use 3 & 5 pound weights. Other than that, you really don't need anything else.
Have a great day!

Thanks, Akeena! Do you find these easy to do at home even without a barre? What equipment do you use or feel is needed to make the most of at-home barre workouts?

Hi Carrie,
I love Barre workouts! I own both volumes of Physique 57 and the three dvds of PopPhysique. I think they're great and have lost 35+ pounds almost exclusively through Physique 57. Both are available on Amazon & I also saw PopPhysique at my local Target.
Hope this helps!

I just started at Pure Barre. Make no mistake-the workout is a killer. It's not cardio, but by the end you're done. I'll just stick with it for 6 weeks and see what my results are.

Hey, I'm Carrie. I've been going to a Pure Barre studio pretty religiously since February when I started getting serious about losing weight and getting healthy. I am addicted to it and the results I've had. I know many people do at home Barre workouts. I'm wondering if anyone has done classes and at home and how they feel they compare. I really like the accountability of going to class, but it would definitely be a lot cheaper to buy some DVDs and do it at home. Does anyone have any feedback on that? Thanks!
