I dropped two Zumba classes because I was not impressed with the instructor. One would start her classes late, and the other, let's just say I expected her to be in better shape to be teach the class. I don't have a problem with someone being a little heavy (hey, we're all working toward some goal), but you could tell she couldn't keep up with the routine...she'd stop and walk around in the middle of the songs, or break us up into teams to dance while she "observed." Meanwhile, my Tuesday instructor starts on time, and goes straight through for an hour with nary a stop. When the fitness instructor is dripping sweat you KNOW she's working you hard.

good instructors are important. They help keep you motivated. My instructors really kick my butt at group power. I love that............

The instructors I've had have been wonderful. Very encouraging, helpful to the newbies, and you can tell they enjoy doing it.

I'm not doing it right now, but have done it in the past at a gym that I attended. The one thing I did find was the instructor either made or broke the class. It seemed that majority of the instuctors were there to get their daily workout in and were not there for the class

I take group power classes that are sort of the same. I love those classes.......with group power we are building muscles as we lift heavy weights with less reps.

I looked online and you can buy the DVD kit for a few hundred dollars. I still think it's more fun doing it with other people.

I LOVE Body Pump. I don't currently have a gym membership, but when I did, Body Pump was one of my favorite classes. It really made weightlifting fun for me by adding the music and the timed moves.

Glad you've found something you enjoy! Good luck!

My husband was a big weightlifter in his youth and he tried to get me to do it, but BORRRRRRRRRRRRRRINGGGG. Then one day, while waiting for the fitness class room to empty so I could join my Zumba class, I took a peek. It was a group weightlifting class.

I'd seen the signs for the Les Mills programs hanging in my gym, but I never thought much about it. I grabbed the instructor as the classes were switching out and asked her if Body Pump was for someone like me, someone who'd never been serious about weightlifting. Absolutely, she said! So I started with a Saturday class.

Body Pump is an hour long class, starting with a warm up and ending with a cool down, that works legs, chest, back, triceps, biceps, legs, shoulders, and abs. It's not really about increasing muscle mass, but more toning and strength and endurance. The first time I did it I could barely walk the next day. My husband laughed (lovingly) as I gingerly made my way to the floor to stretch my quads. But I kept doing it. And I started seeing results.

Now I'm going three times a week (including a 6 am class!) and I miss it when I don't do it. Last Wednesday I upped my weights, and although some of the exercises are challenging (the lunge track on this latest release is a killer) I'm surprising myself at how much I enjoy it.
