I ran my first 5K in Dec--at age 54 and have done one more official one and the July virtual 5K. I will be running our CROP walk in October and doing another 5K in Dec. So yes--we can do this even if we are 55! I'm in better shape now than I was at 45!

I'm doing my first 5k the week before so guess I don't qualify. Good luck to all. I'll be mostly walking I think. But did buy my first pair of running shoes yesterday. Eager to try them out today.

And that's good that you're listening to your body, TIPPY! I mention that very thing on the blog I just posted a few minutes ago.

I have done the virtual 5K twice and have signed up for the trick or treat 5k. I have osteoarthritis in my knee so running or jogging is not an option. I just try to improve my time

This is something else, it's a virtual 5K. You do it all at once, not added up over the week.

That's what I'm doing. Just got back from my first day of trng for this (my second) week, 4 min walk/2 min jog for 30 min.

I'm going to give it a go! I like having a goal to aim for. I'm aiming to do the Trick or Treat 5K so this will be good prep for that.

I was going to do just the walk, but I know I can jog at least a little of it, so figured why not?

I signed up for the walk. My goal will be to walk it at a quicker rate than I am going now, which is 3 mph. I'd like to get to 3.5 on the 5k.

SANDIELD, you might try the program for the walk/jog. It's mostly walking and working up to a slow jog. That's what I'm doing.

Thinking about it. I've walked them, but may work toward running one.

Good for you, Lynn! I'm too old and too fat to start with that one, but I intend to get there.

Yep! Even with a knee injury and subsequent foot challenges, I'm going to be walking a 5K and a 10K later on...not to mention bike races. This weight won't be removed any other way - and I am interested in a whole new lifestyle, not just weight "loss"

I signed up, and I am planning on walking it this time. I hope by spring to be signing up and running one (real, not virtual) with my son.

I did it in 2010. I can run a 5k now and do it at least twice a week

I know I can walk the 5K (I did it yesterday while trying to map out a course), but my goal is to add some jogging into the mix before the 'race'. I did the first workout of the suggested plan today, 4 min walk/1 min jog, for a total of 25 min (although I did a little extra).

I signed up for the virtual 5K walk/jog challenge the other day. I know I'll be doing more walking than jogging, but I hope to work up to being able to complete the entire thing at a slow jog before year's end.

Any other over 50 guys and gals sign up for the challenge?
