The ads don't annoy me. I am easily able to tune-out ads from a free site. I love free sites and am happy that I get to visit so many of them.
If an ad scrolls across the screen, I just click on the X in the ad window. If there is a voice/music/sound with the ad, I just put my computer on mute. If there is an ad that won't leave me alone, such as those annoying MacKeeper ads of a year or so ago, I just quit my browser and then get on-line again.
If it weren't for site ads, I would not be able to belong to so many free on-line groups.

I have been able to ignore ads until those seriously invasive ones that appear when reading articles. Jasmine is correct.

The adds frustrate me and slow down my ability to move through the site. I contacted Spark to ask about a paid, add free version. I was told one does not exist at this time. I won't use online service to block the adds because my husband tried one recently and we had to take the computer in to have it removed plus all the problems it cause.
I guess I just have to put up with the adds.

Your goal is not to see how strong your will is, or how much you can persevere. Your goal is to figure out how to make it as easy on yourself as possible, to set up your environment so it pushes you towards success, to stack the deck in your favor.

I use Firebox and I have an ad blocker on it; I don't see any ads on Spark People at all. I've never had any computer problems as a result of using the ad blocker, and I have had no problems navigating around this site with it.

I'm probable one of the few people here who would rather pay a monthly fee for this site and not have any ads. I like escaping to this world without the annoying reality of someone always trying to sell me something and separating my money from my wallet. I also think it would attract only the serious people who want to get healthy.
Ads are annoying, but tolerable if they keep SP free for us. When I opened up my server the other morning, I had one of those moving ads pop up -- all these gummy bears ran from one side of my screen to the upper right hand corner where they found their advertisement. This is the only one I've ever found kind of cute.

yes the site is free and yes some of the ads are very annoying. There are a lot more ads on this site then when I started with spark 5 years ago. I tend to read the ones that just site there and don't flash in my face, move or speak to me. Those I have no tolerance for. The ads are in our face in all areas of our life. A 30 minute TV show is really like 18 minutes. Buses, billboards, email accounts, web sites, grocery carts, you name it and it has an ad on it. As consumers, how can we stop it?

I love how I get World of Warcraft ads. I guess they assume that just because I play Candy Crush Saga and Gems Journey (two g rated games) That I want to play WOW (not g rated) smh.
But I'll put up with it because it keeps spark free

Yes! Those are so annoying! I also just had one that started talking when I clicked on the page. That's not going to work well while I'm at work......

I haven't experienced that one yet, thank goodness!
I am OK with ads as long as they don't block the spaces that we need to see in order to log nutrition and exercise. I was supremely annoyed by the ads that automatically entered the promotional foods in our trackers...major PITA. It was something like processed grape juice...not anything I would ever actually consume.

Yes at times but I put up with it for the sake of a free site. Most of the time they don't bother me but once in awhile there will be a really annoying one. Last month I kept getting some comedy one with animation of a woman peeing her pants. Sick... I really don't want to see that.
"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. It doesn't happen, what does happen is you get results. Lifting Barbie weights does nothing but waste time.

YES! On SparkRecipes, ads pop up every single time you try to exit out of a recipe...big ads that you have to close before you can do anything else. I understand that they have to make money and that's why I see ads on the sides and top of the screen, but the pop up ads that I have to close out of are too much, in my opinion. I'm finding myself avoiding Spark Recipes due to the ads and, when I visit there, I stay a shorter time and open fewer recipes because the experience of using the site has just become annoying. I haven't experienced the pop up ads here on Spark People proper, yet, but if they start popping up, I'm probably going to be using the site a lot less.
Has anyone else had trouble with the new annoying ads on Spark? Just as soon as you scroll down the page an ad pops up. It freezes my computer for several minutes before I can continue. This happens whenever I try to read an article on Spark!
