I count 1/2 cup as a serving for cooked fruits and veggies and 1 cup for raw fruits and veggies.

It depends on whether it was cooked or not.

This is an old thread so I'm probably too late, but in the UK the NHS recommend a serving of fruit or veg is around 80g. I hope that helps.

I go by the Canada Food Guide, and I really wish they used weights instead of volumes!

I just don't know what a half cup of broccoli or a half cup of asparagus is supposed to look like. So I just eat lots and lots of fruit and veggies so I know I am getting enough, and I weigh them to get the correct nutritional info for tracking.

But the Canada Food Guide does not really distinguish between cooked and raw except when it comes to leafy greens like chard, spinach and kale. These are 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked per serving.

What about whether veggies are cooked, or raw.

My broccoli today is 2.5 cups ( 2.5 servings ), but is that because serving size is measured raw, and it cooks down to 1.25 cups? Or is 1/2 cup raw a serving, and I am getting 5 servings?

Thanks! I was using the FDA serving sizes, which are the same, but it just seemed like so many servings all at once that I thought maybe there was something off with my counting. lol

yup 1/2 c is a serving - unless its dried fruit then it's about half that

In my lunch today:

- 1 cup chopped fresh broccoli (2 servings)
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (2 servings)
- 1/2 large orange bell pepper, chopped (1 serving)
- 1/4 cup chopped scallions (1/2 serving)
- 1 cup quartered strawberries (2 servings)

Did I really have 7 1/2 servings of fruits and vegetables with lunch, or am I counting wrong? I eat this many at lunch and/or dinner often, and I just want to make sure I'm tracking it right.
