I drink the flavored sparkling water. There's no calories and no sweeteners. In the evening, I make them into water "spritzers" with a little orange or grapefruit juice, and sometimes just a splash of maraschino cherry juice. Sometimes I'll cut up some strawberries or blackberries to add in. It's a creative, tasty, low-calorie alternative to soda or to that evening nightcap beverage.

I bought a Soda Stream a couple of years ago. I don't like the taste of plain water either. The Soda Stream uses a cartridge that adds carbonation. It saves me money over buying sparkling water all the time. I rarely add any flavoring to it but there are a lot of diet flavors you can add. They also have lemon, lime, pink grapefruit, etc. Sometimes I just put a squirt of lemon or lime juice in it.

If it's mostly the carbonation you like, there are lots of alternatives. Soda water with a splash of juice (cranberry or other) is great and you can slowly dial back the amount of juice you include. I like to experiment with bitters in soda water too if I'm feeling fancy.

Wondering -- is it also the feel of the can or bottle that you like/crave? Think about how you typically drink the stuff. Sometimes we get attached to the ritual and feel of something.

I drink 100% juice instead of soda. It satisfies my desire for a sugar hit but is healthy. One could also add seltzer water or carbonated water to spike it up. This works for me and I do not find it is a problem calorie- wise. I add it in. After giving up soda, which contains WAY more sugar, my need for the sweet hit drops significantly in about a week, and then I drink more and more ice water. Really cold water is very refreshing, I think. Also, good quality peach tea makes wonderful cold ice tea, and so does peppermint tea. I recommend Celestial Seasoning brand. sarah

I used to hate water too, and got free pop at work and so drank coke all the time. I started by telling my self I could have some pop AFTER I finished a glass of water.. I found I at least drank a lot less that way because I wasn't thirsty anymore, then after a while the water started to grow on me and I didn't reach for coke first. It was a huge accomplishment for me!

I gave up drinking pop (soda) for 3 years while I originally lost my initial goal of 166lbs (1lb more than 1/2 of my original starting weight). I then starting drinking it again - I could drink 6-10 cans of Pepsi a day. When I started counting calories again I gave up pop. That was July 22nd and I am not missing it yet. Now I only drink OJ for breakfast and then water for the rest of the day.

Sparkling flavored water when I'm craving pop, or water with a little bit of lemon. Most of the time I just suck it up and drink plain water, but I never seem to get my 8 glasses a day that way!

Sparkling mineral water? :-) I didn't like it before but it is a nice change to plain water when I am thinking about having a diet coke. I try to limit myself to one diet coke a week due to the "fake" sugar.

I think water is gross to and I hate those crystal light packs cause I think they taste similar to the sweetener. I love pop thats a huge vice for me too. I started putting pure lemon juice on my water. it helps me get through it but there are also lots of ways to infuse water with good flavor that doesn't result in drinking all of your daily calories away. Also if your sensitive to the taste of water avoid aquifina like the plague.. that stuff has a taste to me. also maybe check out what the calorie count on carbonated water is, that way you can infuse it to have a flavor and get the fizzy kick from soda with out a boat load of calories

My biggest weakness is soda. I can't stomach the diet stuff because the taste of the artificial sweetener grosses me out! So, I'd love to know what people like me have done to get away from the habit of drinking soda every day! I don't like water, i know some people say it doesn't have a taste, but it does have a taste to me, LOL. I think I'm more addicted to the carbonation than anything. Any tips, suggestions, or even recipes to help me curb this awful habit? emoticon
