When eating "healthier" many people start using less processed foods, etc. The sodium intake goes way down in their diet----then when you do have the occasional higher salt food, it tastes really salty to you. Could this be for you?
You could be dehydrated...the saliva in your mouth changes composition when a person is dehydrated making things taste saltier....also you could be congested and not thinking that too can affect your taste buds....even allergies.
Sometimes this could be a sign of diabetes...are you thirsty all the time too?
If things do not change please get guidance from a qualified medical professional.
I have the same issue. I eat around 1000 mg of sodium a day, and my eggs, and chicken taste really salty, but that is from the salted butter, and the chicken has salt in it. The same thing is true with many vegetables tasting sugary, since they have that in them.
If you think it is more than that, see a doctor, although I cannot think of anything that would cause that.
Have you been deliberately lowering your sodium consumption recently? It could just be that you are no longer used to having a lot of it, so you are noticing it more now.
When I started cooking more, using primarily whole foods, my daily sodium consumption ended up averaging around 1300mg per day. After a couple of months at that level, I could seriously only taste salt when I ate anything that had a relatively high amount of sodium. Even plain celery tasted salty to me.
I'm currently having to eat high sodium (thanks to my doc), and am fighting to find other flavourings to hide the salt taste, since I find it really over-bearing.
