I have an occasional (very occasional) wine...usually red. Otherwise, nothing. Just too many calories for what it is.

I went cold turkey at the start of my diet. I've slowly been having a glass of wine here and there. I try to keep it to social situations.

When I began my weight loss journey, I quit drinking without a look back. The weight fell off. Affirmation that any alcohol will affect metabolism. Weight loss centers (I've never been a customer) stress - absolutely NO ALCOHOL.
I enjoy it as well and have been letting drinks slip back into my diet. The result? Weight loss stalled, even with dieting and exercise.
It's so hard to deprive outrselves of what we enjoy. Healthy living shouldn't mean total deprivation. Enjoy your occasional glass of wine - it's also good for you.

Thank you for your comment. I like the idea of a walk or something like that to lift your spirit instead of the alcohol. I will see if my husband would possibly do this with me. Great idea!
This is brutal for me as well! I like the taste of booze, including wine, but I drink to get a buzz on or to lift my spirits, so one drink just doesn't cut it. I've been drinking substantially less since I realized how it is metabolized straight to fat, but I haven't quit. Exercise, even a short walk or bike ride in the evening, is a great mood-lifter and a great alternative for me. Good luck!

I am finally able to take a hard look at my alcohol consumption. I love to have some wine in the evenings - but one glass just wasn't enough. I am struggling with this and don't want it to affect my health. I love it so! I just decided to allow myself one 5-oz. glass every night with dinner. If I cannot stick to this then I will have to give it up. I don't know how difficult this will be, but hopefully it will help me to lose weight and feel better about myself.
