I got a spinal fusion June 2008 and I actually lost weight. My dad made me go for walks twice a day and then I started going on walks and bike rides with my sister. You just gotta do a little at a time and keep up with it. It helps to have someone to keep you motivated. Not sure how intensive yours was but my recovery sucked haha. Good luck!

I didn't exercise at all and did pretty good with losing weight, I lost 43 lbs in 2012. You just have to be extra diligent about your eating habits, no "cheating".

Thank you tons! =] That makes me feel a lot more hopeful.

The good thing about weight loss is that the majority of your progress is going to come from what you're eating, not exercise. So as long as you're careful with your food choices and track regularly, you can still lose weight consistently even if you can't be as active as you'd like.
Hope that helps,

I had spinal fusion done in August this past year and I have gained 20 lbs since the surgery. Honestly, I didn't work out much before, but now I'm so limited in movement, as I'm still recovering, I'm not approved to do any lifting and no cardio other than walking. Not even elliptical yet.
I'm fine on the food front (as far as knowing what to eat to lose), but I was wondering if anyone else has had success with eating healthy and just walking and still losing weight? I feel so unmotivated because I feel like without exercise, I'm doomed to stay the size I am.
