I agree that your doctor or physical therapist is the best one to answer these questions.

What did your doctor or PT recommend for exercise ? I would definitely start with their suggestions since they know your medical situation better than anyone here on SP.
Ask them if it's okay to do squats. They may say it's okay to do body weight squats, but avoid using any barbells or weights. BUT, once again, check with your doctor first. If you try to do too much too soon, you risk re-injuring your foot.
Also, if your doctor wants you to walk on a daily basis, then keep walking. Walking will help rebuild your leg muscle. Muscle has memory. So, if you were active before the surgery, your muscles will bounce back quickly.
Take this slowly. one day at a time, one workout at a time. I'm sure like many people, you'll have your good days and not so good days. Listen to your body.

I would not do squats every day. Every other day is fine. You should let your muscles rest a day in between working each group.
I had surgery on my foot and couldn't walk on it for 3 months. Now that I can put weight on it again I'm trying to build up my leg muscles again. Do you think it's a bad idea to do squats every day for the big muscles? The foot mobility is still limited so I have to take it easy. But squats I can do. Mostly questioning whether every day is still too much or since it's just squats if it's probably OK. Thoughts?
