Websites that accept outside ads don't have any input into the format of the ads. SparkPeople does ban ads that are offensive or fraudulent (some websites don't even bother to do that much), but they can't get rid of them just because they're annoying.
The ad blockers that other posters have mentioned are available for free (and even better ones are available for a few dollars) and would make all commercial websites run faster, not just SparkPeople. I've been using one for years and it has never caused me trouble except one time when the ad apparently covered a whole page and I thought the page wouldn't load.
Another way to stop the ads is to contact the advertiser and tell them that you HATE the ad and will never buy their product. Sometimes that backfires, though, because most advertisers believe that you hating them is better than not having heard of them.
I thought I had an ad blocker but it isn't blocking anything.
I don't really register the ads mentally, though.
I would love a spark premium option for no ads, though.

I have an ad blocker as well, so I don't see advertisements --- just like DRAGONCHILDE

I don't see any advertisements. I support this site through subscriptions to SparkCoach, purchasing the app, and buying merchandise now and again. Because of that, I use an adblocking add on for my browser and see no ads here or anywhere. :)

I do appreciate that this is a free website and it is really good, but I wondered if it might be possible to turn down the commercials just a notch?
It seems that whenever I click on a box to input something, I have to wait while the next set of animated commercials load. It is making updating information pretty painful.
Is it just me, or would anyone else be grateful if, say, the commercials refreshed on every 5th click or if they were simpler, non-animated, commercials?
