Thank you. I love dancing and do so regularly - when I'm motivated to move though. The biking thing sounds like a good idea to try out now. My granddaughter of five just got a bike for her birthday and I could go and ride with her for a start.

Thank you very much. I have, however, been a very active gym member for many many years. I would like to do something different and save the stacks of money to join gyms in South Africa.

It is a good idea though and that was my way of starting daily exercise years ago.

Also, if you want to exercise for its cardio and strength benefits, maybe you can try a local gym. Many offer group fitness classes for a reasonable fee. This would give you an opportunity to try some classes that give you active benefits and you meet people. Sometimes they offer sampler classes where you get to try 3 or 4 different formats like Zumba, CrossFit, drums, HIIT for free. This is how I learned Zumba is not for me but many people love it. My gym offers Zumba on land and in the water.

Also, the gym may offer orientation for free or very cheap. These sessions are an opportunity to get to know the different equipment. Sometimes, gyms can be overwhelming. I love my gym and it helps me be active. And I have made great friends.

Thank you. I enjoy running too. Up to 10km/day until 2007 when I broke all five metatarsals in my left foot. Since then a struggle to get that fit again. You motivated me to get going again. Gratitude!

Honestly, I hate exercise for the sake of exercise. I can't motivate myself to do it. But I discovered that I love running! After about a year of doing it, I'm up to running about 25 miles a week and training for a half-marathon, so I'm definitely getting plenty of "exercise," but it's the form of a sport I enjoy, not saying to myself, "Well, I guess it's time to go exercise now."

For strength training, my motivation is that it increases my running performance...and I like how I look when I flex. :) But again, still not exercise just because I should exercise.

So basically, I'm agreeing with others that once you find an activity you enjoy, you don't have to think of it as exercise and it will be easier to feel motivated to do it.

if you are active on a regular basis, you don't need "formal" exercise as much.

I've been trying to explain to a friend of mine the difference between activity and exercise! Sounds to me like you get it, for sure!!!

Another idea is 10-minute workouts. I usually trick myself and say, "OK, if you still don't feel like exercising after 10 minutes, you can stop." Guess what? Yep, I RARELY stop at 10 minutes. By the time I'm dressed for a workout and actually doing it, the hard part is over with.

Anyway, consistency is key. Much better to do smaller segments but regularly.

find an activity that you like, or would like to try - dancing, skating, ice skating, cycling, hiking, gardening, pickleball, etc.

it doesn't have to be a formal exercise class or doing a DVD workout to qualify as exercise

I am energetic, but just unmotivated for weeks at a time to exercise, especially in cold weather. Tips? emoticon
