The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking.
-- Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth

~ food in my fridge, clothes on my back, a roof over my head and a place to sleep, making me richer than 75% of the world.

~ I have money in the bank, my wallet, and some spare change, making me among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

~ I woke up this morning with more health than illness, making me more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.

~ I have never experienced the danger of battle, the agony of imprisonment or torture, or the horrible pangs of starvation, making me luckier than 500 million people alive and suffering.

~ reading everyone's gratitudes and writing this message makes me more fortunate than 3 billion people in the world who cannot read or write at all

I think I'll join in today because although I have a lot to be thankful for, today I wasn't focusing on the positive parts of my life!

* I'm grateful that my two children are healthy and that they make me laugh
* I'm grateful that I achieved my goal of reaching a healthy weight
* I'm grateful for air conditioning
* I'm grateful for my husband and for the way he supports me in my goals and aspirations
* I'm grateful for the increased confidence I've had as I've been losing weight and fitting into more of my old clothes
* I'm loving the Olympics and feel so inspired by all of the athletes!!!

I feel better already!

Contacting the experience of being hooked, you breathe in, allowing the feeling completely and opening to it. The in-breath can be deep and relaxed—anything that helps you to let the feeling be there, anything that helps you not push it away. Then, still abiding with the urge and edginess of the feeling, as you breathe out you relax and give the feeling space. The out-breath is not a way of sending the discomfort away but of ventilating it, of loosening the tension around it, of becoming aware of the space in which the discomfort is occurring.
-- Pema Chodron

I am grateful for my twins, who will be 8 in exactly 7 days. I had just about given up hope of having children when I got pregnant with them. I had been trying for a year, had gone through numerous tests and procedures (Clomid, IUI, injectible meds, etc.), and was exhausted physically and emotionally. I decided to give IVF one final try, and got pregnant with them. At first, they told me I was pregnant with only one baby. Two weeks later, they saw a second baby on the ultrasound, but told me I would never carry that second baby to a live birth, as it was so much smaller than the first. I delivered my twins at 31 weeks, a beautiful baby boy and a beautiful baby girl! Although they spent five weeks in the NICU, I was able to bring them both home! They are now beautiful, energetic, amazing 8 year olds, and I couldn't imagine my life without them.

"Whatever you are waiting for--peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of Simple Abundance--it will surely come, but only when you are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart. "
Sarah Ban Breathnach

The idea here is to write at least five things you are grateful or appreciative each day, thus cultivating an attitude of gratitude I will be here with my 5 when it is August for me. I appreciate everyone who joins me in this tradition.
