I am so glad I read this thread! I am the EXACT same way! My parents thought I was nuts as a kid because I would gag and almost throw up eating fruit because of the texture. Later on in life, I had actually mentioned this to a therapist and they said its actually an OCD symptom of some sort... I make a lot of smoothies just to get in my servings of fruit, and remember a serving of fruit can also equal a glass of real fruit juice (not the fake crap!) You are not alone :)

It's been like this as long as I remember. I remember getting yelled at as a little kid when it would happen and I didn't know what to do because I couldn't control it happening. And yes I've tried a lot of fruits: berries of all kinds, citrus, and all the ones that you listed. The same thing happens every time. Avocados are alright and some of the fruits that are mistaken for veggies are alright too like tomatoes and peppers.

Okay...so have you tried every kind of fruit?
I'm guessing this is an apples and oranges kind of thing?
Grapes too? Strawberries? Plums? Kiwis? Bananas? Avocados? (Avocados are actually related to walnuts as I understand...but have a seed-thing in the middle. So, I figured I'd ask about it.)
I mean, there are about a billion types of fruit out there. Surely you haven't tried them all. If it's not the texture that's getting you (and it can't be can it? I mean if an apple and a banana both make you gag...then we can rule out texture), then my guess is you've formed an aversion to the word "fruit."
When was the first time you noticed that you had a reaction to fruit?

I have never had that problem, but you might be eating fruit and not even know it already. Tomatoes, avocados, peppers, etc. could be considered fruit also.

I understand that I need to eat fruits as part of a healthy diet, but I have one pretty big problem: I hate fruit. For as long as I can remember it's been my nemesis and I really don't want it to be that way. Now I know that the best way to get over this is to just get used to fruit by eating it all the time, but here's where things get even more embarrassing. Whenever I try to eat fruit my gag reflex kicks in hard core and my eyes water like mad. It's an entire ordeal that can last between 5 minutes and half an hour to try and finish the fruit. If things are in smoothies, this isn't a problem, but I really want to be able to eat plain fruit and not have this sort of thing happen. I don't know if it's psychological or what. I didn't have a horrible experience with fruit that led to me hating all fruit. So if anyone has faced this problem before or can provide advice on how to make it stop I would be most grateful for your assistance. Thank you!
