one year when we were visiting DH's family in Louisville that movie was on TV. His niece (who was WAY old enough to know better) went outside by herself to see if her tongue would really stick to a fence post. Of course it did. She panicked and pulled it loose, taking off a piece of skin. OUCH! She came inside crying and too embarrassed to tell anybody what she'd done. We still tease her about it!
And she has a t-shirt with that scene on it.
I TRIPLE dog dare you!

classic movie it a must watch when its on 24 on Christmas Eve to Christmas evening
I agree with the poster below. My list of holiday classics include things I have enjoyed since a child: Dr. Seuss's Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas, Garfield Christmas, Frosty, Rudolf. I've never seen a Christmas Story or many of other holiday movies traditionally thought to be "classics".
I that movie; it's so hilarious! I love when Ralphie brings that big fruit basket to his teacher and gives her a wink, too funny! The father in that movie is beyond hilarious and love it when his wife breaks the "special award" he got and he's looking for glue and says "Not a finger!!!!".

No question about it. I put on par with Its Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th street.
Ever wonder why Christmas is not in the title to Miracle on 34th street? The producer, knowing that movie attendance peaked in the summer, released in in the summer and thought the use of the word "Christmas" would negatively impact viewership. Info from TCM.
