April. First of all I want to give a shout out to you for your weight loss. That is awesome. I just started reading about this 8 hour diet 2 days ago and started it yesterday. I made my window 9 am to 5 pm. I stuck with it too. I have to admit, I am hungry right now and have another 1 1/2 hours until I can eat but I am ok. I am having a cup of coffee with Splenda and Non Dairy creamer in it. Is this ok? I wake up with a nasty headache if I don't get coffee in me first thing in the morning.
The reason I am trying to do 9 to 5 is because I work 2 pm to 10 pm and so I am trying to drag it out while at work.
I would love some pointers on what I can do to make this work.

M, I'm with you. We don't all respond the same way, and isn't that a good thing? We're not machines! What works for one doesn't necessarily achieve the same results for another.

I like the 8-hour diet. I feel terrific on it! However, I find that when I follow a diet for a period of time, my weight loss slows and even stops. Dang, my body is good at adapting and preserving! So when that happens, if I change things up a bit, the weight loss begins again. That's what I'm doing right now with something a bit different than 8-hour, but I have no doubt I will be back when my weight loss slows again.

There is absolutely no reliable science that supports this fad. Calories are calories and it doesn't matter when you eat them.

This idea is actually what helped me to focus and get back into 'health' mode - I eat primarily fresh foods, anyway, but my problem is eating at night and just eating junk (soda, crackers, leftover pasta - I am a carb addict, for sure). So, I allow myself to eat as much as I want in that 8-hour window (actually, mine is a 9-hour window), including garbage food, and the first couple of days, I admit I ate A LOT. But now I feel almost 'reset' in that I am able to control my intake and in the last week or so have lost a few pounds without even trying - I just eat in a specific timeframe, eat what I want, and make sure I do at least 10-20 minutes of some kind of cardio each morning before I get going for the day. So far, so good. And I feel good, too! I don't feel like I will starve or like I am being deprived. So we'll see - it won't work for everybody, of course, but I hope it can at least help me regain a healthy focus that I can easily manage and use what I am learning as a springboard into more healthy habits and a more healthy life overall.

I have been on this diet for about 8 weeks. I have lost 15 lbs. I am thrilled-I feel so much better and have more control of everything! I have not been walking or being very active due to some physical limitations. I began walking a short time on my treadmill 2 days ago and gradually building up to a mile. (Been very limited for a couple year.) I now feel I can increase my activity.
I am thrilled with even 1-2 lbs a week. Have not been able to stick with any eating program for years!

This can be a very helpful approach as long as one doesn't end up gorging oneself in the 8 hour window...

There are other plans out there based on a similar concept:
3 pm diet and the half-day diet, etc.

I have the same issue. Some nights I travel back from the gym and get home at 8 and have 30 minutes or less to cook and eat. I still do 3 meals and a small snack. I eat at 12:30 when I am home from lunch break, around 3:00 with a snack, 530 I eat a good portion because I weight lift around 6-630 p.m. and then return home from the gym around 8. Sometimes a bit earlier if it isn't a cardio night! Tonight will be a deadlifting night and that just drains me so I won't follow it with Cardio so I will return home around 730 and have more time to prepare a good meal. I will get my 1200 or more calories in though. My diet allows for 1200-1550 but I am trying to stay a bit lower in order to reduce my weight significantly again. Then I know for sure that this is the way of eating for life must be! For whatever reason my body reacts better. When I feel hungry I drink water with mio or green tea. LOTS of it.

Oh... and I do use just a bit of creamer in my coffee in the AM. It hasn't seemed to change much.

I will be very curious when you weigh if you had good results.

I know you are a runner and not heavy weight training but if you are looking for some interesting results on it and losing belly fat google intermitten fasting lean gains. You will see a few sites come up. I didn't put the exact site because I don't know as I am allowed to in this post.

I Deadlift 240lbs, Chest press 115lbs and Squat 200 and do a 80lbs standing shoulder press with barbell. I do interval cardio. I usually run 7.5 for 1 min and walk 3.9 for 30 sec. 3x's a week) and then do the elliptical or walk the track another day or two. I change up my routine every 4 weeks and it wasn't until IF eating that the weight started dropping again.

Congratulations! That's a great perspective. I appreciate that. I'm trying hard to stick to eight hours. There is about a 15 minute margin for error, simply because my fiance gets home from work later on some days and I'd prefer to eat at a reasonable pace, rather than shoveling to make my timeline. I am afraid to weigh myself, honestly. I might tomorrow. I just don't want to be disappointed. I have low expectations, so as long as I haven't gained, I'm ok. I have actually been eating more on the 8 hour diet. Not gorging, of course. Just not the small portions 4-5x a day like I did...So, I'm nervous!!

I saw something on Intermittent Fasting (IF) on television a week ago. I liked the thought of it and picked up the book by Dr. Mosley. It was the 5:2 diet. I read the entire book in just a few short hours and then started researching it more online. That is when I came across a few body builders I found and realized they did the 8 hour eating window. This is what a lot of body builders do for "lean gains". This has worked successfully for those that lift weights in order to reduce the body fat.

I do think that each person is different and therefore you have to go with an approach that works best for you. I tend to lose weight VERY hard. I do train with weights 4 days a week and get cardio in 3 days a week but yet my weight drops VERY slow. I went through a divorce about 2 years ago and was the heaviest I have ever been. A whopping 220lbs on a 5'7" body. I started dating a year later after dropping about 30 of those pounds which took me a YEAR. I was 190 when I gave myself permission to start dating again. While dating I was very embarrassed about my weight and about eating in front of my dates. I would get up and start my day with a protein shake and then eat lunch and then eat a dinner. All of a sudden from about December to July I went from 190 to 160lbs loosing the SAME amount 30lbs in 6 months rather than 1 year! I still did not reflect on this. I was glad I was weighing in at 162lbs. In this time, I met a man, he moved in July. From July to Feb of this year I went from 162lbs to 199. :(

Here is what I recently reailzed... I am eating my same 1200-1500 calorie diet I have been for 2 years now... The difference is when I was dating and dating him we were working out with a weight routine 3-5 days a week with 2-3 cardio days. Nothing has changed there. The thing that had changed is that when I was dating him I would eat my calories from 7am - 5pm (roughly a 10 hour window) Then I wouldn't eat from 5pm until 7am the next day (14 hour window of fasting). This was all just part of the fact I would travel an hour to see him at 5pm and we would work out and I would not like to eat in front of him (silly I know) and then I would drive home around 11pm and knowing it was bad to eat that late at night I would just go to bed!

So the difference was the fact that I was eating all my calories in a 10 hour window. When he moved in I ate all the same calories and foods but I was spreading them from 7am to 8pm.

Where am I going with this? after seeing this and realizing that I use to Intermitten Fast without realizing I decided to do this type of eating again. So last week I began eating at 1230pm in the afternoon and my last meal would end at 830pm. I chose this later time frame because I work out around 6pm and I want to be able to have protein and carbs to recoup. (I lift heavy weights 4 days a week, 3 weeks a month). in just one week going back to how I was when I was in 'dating mode' I have gone from 199.8 to 196.4. almost 3.5lbs from just switching my time frame of eating and having the 16 hour window of 'IF'.

There are 2 aspects to this plan. One is the limited window makes it easier to stay within your plan on a daily basis. But at the end of the day all that matters is total calories consumed vs. burned. Rules do not change.

The second is the effects of fasting. The benefits of entering a fasting state are the greatest between 16-24 hours. After that it's diminishing returns and damage (starvation) comes into play around 48.

So if you don't hit a 16 hour fast, that's fine but you really are not doing an intermittent fasting diet. Also, if you overeat within the eating window, you are not doing an intermittent diet.

Take away, it's a tool to help you not over consume but there are also biochemical advantages. Bottom line like any plan compliance and consistency rule the day.

Been reading some of the posts here and another discussion. I saw the book at Walmart and so read up on it. I like the idea of limiting night time eating, which is a problem for me. I don't like the idea of not eating breakfast. I work a long day and have to be mentally focused. So, I eat a egg every morning. In some ways its a small breakfast. I work 10-14 hour days. If I can stop the eating when I get home, I'd do better. I guess as I'm thinking about this, if I eat between 7 and 7 and fast from 7 to 7, would it work out the same. Just wondering. My take on any program is making it work for you and your lifestyle. When I'm home on my days off, I eat breakfast much later. I'm going to try some of the principles with what I'm already doing and see how it works for me.

April, as I wrote in an earlier post, I haven't read the book yet, but I have checked around the internet, and from what I've seen, a little creamer in your coffee shouldn't be a problem, as long as it's a little.

I am not overweight, but I am looking to lose the bloat and come out of it with a lifestyle change. I'm getting married in September and my dress is form fitting. I tend to travel with a belly bulge, which is kind of embarrassing. Because I'm petite everywhere else, I've been asked several times how far along I am, or someone on the metro will give up their seat for me. It's kind of amusing, but that aside, I need to get my act together. I'm a runner (I ran my first and only marathon, got engaged that night).

I think this diet will do wonders because I can schedule it where I am not starving before my run, and I can eat within an hour post-run, which is highly suggested anyway.

I'm only on day two and learning as I go. My first mistake was putting creamer in my coffee. Oops.

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts or tips? I've googled for a solid hour and it all seems to say the same thing. Maybe I'm more looking for the "distraction" tips in the morning. I graze at work because of stress or monotony.

I totally agree it's an external control, but for me it seems to be working, albeit very slowly. We all have to find what works for each of us, and we are certainly all different. SP, WW, Atkins, South Beach, etc., all have their devotees, and the plans work. Finding what works for you or me is an individual journey. The one-size-fits-all low fat, high carb diets haven't done so well for us. For the most part I do not eat grains, even healthy whole grains, except for an occasional bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal. This has had an anti-inflammatory effect that has left my arthritic hands and knees pain free. Amazing!

I think it's kind of silly. If it works for you guys, great, but it's all a mind game to me, a way to put an external control on what is essentially just a commitment to eating less. External controls make me itch. ;)

I began the 8-hour diet about two weeks ago. I decided that my eating "window" would be about 12 noon to 8 pm. The first couple of days I was pretty hungry in the morning, mainly, I believe, because I was used to eating breakfast. I'm no longer hungry in the morning, but the breakfast habit isn't broken yet because I find myself thinking about it when the time rolls around. I just have a glass of water, though, and I'm fine.

I'm feeling terrific and sleeping incredibly well, unusual for me.

Here are my pros and cons so far:

I feel good
Cravings are gone
Hunger is gone
Thinking about food all the time is gone
I have lots of energy and motivation to get things done
I work out in the mornings and take the dogs for a walk before breaking my fast at noon
I don't have headaches or muscle weakness, like the first few days/weeks of very low carb
No feelings of deprivation, which have led to diet crashes in the past
I'm eating well but no urge to overeat or to eat junk
This would be easy to maintain long-term
I'm losing weight
It's very flexible and not necessary to do 7 days a week, so occasional Saturday morning breakfasts with friends are fine

Weight loss is slow. I've lost about 2 1/2 pounds in two weeks, but as long as I continue to lose, I'm encouraged, and I DO NEED TO BE ENCOURAGED.

I haven't read the book yet -- I'm on the wait list at the library -- but I've glanced at a copy in the store. I'll be interested to learn more about the scientific theory. I've been intrigued with the idea of intermittent fasting but knew I would never like or succeed at not eating for 24 hours. The 8-hour diet is very doable for me.

I'd be interested to hear about others' experiences.

I've been doing IF (8 hr window) for about 5 months. More because it suits my schedule and odd digestive system (I don't feel well if I eat after 8pm, or if I eat before I work out). I am losing weight and have had no ill effects. I haven't read the book in question as I did not know or care that there were books. It's a very simple concept, no book is needed. Eat your calorie range, but within an 8 hour period.

I'm happy to hear that someone is having an experience similar to mine! I also thought I wouldn't be able to go without an early breakfast. I would eat breakfast at 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. and then found myself hungry by 9 or 10 a.m., however, I'm doing just fine with coffee in the morning and holding off on breakfast for a while. I'm also so much more in control and find myself NOT thinking about food the way I used to. The weight loss is kind of slow but I also think I could exercise more and get it moving a little faster. Even if it is a slow loss, at least it is something I can maintain. Well, keep it up. It sounds like you are doing great!

I have been on this diet for a week and a half. I've lost one pound. I am doing it 4-5 days a week. I thought I couldn't go without breakfast but it has been easy and makes me feel in control. I am not hungry at all. I drink a lot of hot tea and zero cal drinks. I have noticed that when I don't eat breakfast I don't think about or really want food like I did after eating breakfast. I also think about eating those power foods to keep my body healthy. I feel calmer about food too. If I choose to eat a dessert I don't freak out thinking I've blown it. I think if I get more active ill have better results.

I just completed Day 10 and I have lost 3 pounds so far. I'm happy with that. I was struggling to lose any weight before this because I couldn't seem to stick to anything longer than about 4 days. I am able to stick to this plan for some reason without feeling hunger. I keep expecting the weight loss to stop because I'm eating good food in satifying amounts.
People sure seem to have strong feelings about this 8 hour diet. They either really like it or really hate it! Since I don't feel hungry on this plan after I have my first meal at 10 or 10:30 AM, I find myself tweaking what I eat. I'm eating healthier and better every day but I'm not purposely restricting myself. I'd like to hear if others are having any success on this way of eating. I hope so!

I just started the 8 hour diet, too. I've done various forms of IF and this is the easiest to live with, and also effective for my health goals and weight loss.

I've been IFing for nearly 2 years. I love it. I've always hated the 5-6 meals mantra and when I learned it does nothing for your metabolism or blood sugar or anything else, I dropped it. I also dropped breakfast, the supposed "most important meal of the day".

There are some important considerations that I'd like to point out. First, if anyone thinks this is an "eat whatever you want" type diet, you're going to be disappointed. There is no magic in this diet or any other diet for that matter. This is more or less a "lifestyle" choice.

Second, getting good at fasting takes practice. I used to be ravenous by lunch time. I learned to dial that back over time.

The bottom line is that this style of eating fits me and the way I like to do things. I don't attribute anything magical here, just a method that coincides with how I operate most days.

Funny - there are two threads in the SP message boards about the 8 hour diet. I started the other one. I'll comment here, too.

I have not read the book.
I don't know the "rules".
I have tried this for only 10 days.
I have not even done it every day, probably about 6 times or so in the past 10 days since I saw the segment on the Today Show last week.

On the days I have done it, I have followed only 1 rule - eat for only 8 hours in that day.

It has not been hard. Oh, sure, during the 16 hour fasting window, I've wanted to eat something, but not because I was starving, just because of mindless "grazing" habits I've developed before.

During the 8 hour eating window, I've eaten pretty much like normal. I have not made a particular effort to clean up my eating - not that I'm a bad eater anyway. I've even allowed myself a Klondike ice cream bar in the evenings on several occasions. (for me, a Klondike bar is portion control - better than sitting down with an open container of ice cream. No need to lecture me - I've made my peace with ice cream and it is in the form of one Klondike bar when I want it.)

The thing I am realizing is that in the traditional "grazing" eat-5-to-6-small-meals-throughout-the-day, for me it simply becomes eating 5-6 meals throughout the day. I start early and finish late.

At least with the 8 hour window, I limit my eating to 8 hours. I can only consume so many calories in that limited time. And it is enough time. I don't go crazy. I'm not stupid about it. I eat. Then I stop. If I really feel like I need something, I drink water or hot (green) tea. Amazing how that can fill me up! And clean me out! :)

I know, 6 times in 10 days is not a lifetime. But right now, I'm thinking I can do this for a lifetime. It seems to work with my schedule. I don't have to do it every day. I can to it 2 or 3 times (or more or less) a week. No stressing about it.

I'll do this for a while and evaluate. Maybe I'll move on to the next trendy fad diet. Maybe I'll go back to eating 5-6 "small" meals from the time I get up to the time I go to bed like everyone else.

But maybe there's something to it. And, you know, there is also some satisfaction for me to feel some hunger and to not yield to it. Before, I'd feel some hunger and think - "need to have a snack - keep the fire burning."

I think it is good to challenge traditional thinking from time to time. If the traditional thinking is valid, it will prove itself to be. If the "trend" is not valid, it will surly fail over time. If the "trend" has any validity, it, too, will prove itself over time.

And there is not just "one answer". There can be several methods that are valid. "Traditional thinking" can be valid. Something else can be, too.

Your experiences are certainly different than mine. Just sharing mine thus far.

oh, the point of all of this...I stepped on the scale this morning and I am down 6# from 10 days ago. Don't worry, I have not had my Klondike bar yet today. I'm sure I'll put it back on! :)

Am I worried? No. I'm an experiment of one. I like to try things and see how I respond to it.

There wasn't even anything that could be construed as advertising. They mentioned a book.. and how the book should be read before opinions were solidly formed.

I can see how this might make sense, but I have a job....I leave home at 7:25 AM I have to eat my lunch at 11:15,(and get 25 min. to do it) leave work at 3:30. If I go straight home I`m there at 3:45....I cannot eat any time I want.
-----REALLY46-- I understand your frustration with SP. I was told I would be kicked out because I was turned in for something I asked on the Spark Cafe msg boards!! I was warned not to criticize SP at all but esp. on Cafe. Someone probably turned you in because they disagreed with you.(there are petty people out there) ...that has been my experience here. SP is free and that is about he only thing I like about it anymore....we may both be kicked out!

As with anything, you have to eat reasonably. In the author's defense, he states that you need to base yout 8-hour diet primarily on lean protein, veggies, fruits, and 'good fats" that fill you up so you don't binge.

So if you eat poorly, whether it's alll day or in an 8-hour period, you'll gain weight. The 8-hour plan is not a free license to indulge!

With that said, years ago i tried a book called "Body For Life". It advocated exrcise before you ate in the morning, which i hated. I felt like I was running on empty. i feel better eating lightly, and then about 45 minutes later working out. That's just me though, and I wonder how I'd feel on this plan as a result.

I have been trying this out since seeing it and it seems to work for me. I don't eat any more or any less. I have breakfast---just not util 10:00 a.m. My calories stay the same each day and I use common sense about what I eat. The whole problem when new diets or plans are shown on TV is that they have a limited time to talk about them, People only hear what they want to hear and don't get the whole story behind it.

For me it's not a giant binge and it's not hard to eat all 3 meals in a span of 8 hours. 8 hours is a long time considering it shouldn't take you a half an hour to eat a meal.. i mean really. Unless you are a slow eater or eating a giant portion!

I have a yogurt and half a grapefruit and maybe some peanuts (unsalted). Then for lunch (For this week for example) i've had a cup of spaghetti squash lasagna with 3 small slices of garlic bread (like as round as a half dollar and a centimeter thick) Then for dinner i have a chicken sandwich (no salt added.. paprika, garlic and onion powder, with reduced fat cheese and a low sodium bun and a lot of lettuce.. and a tablespoon of olive oil mayo) and some sweet potatos "fries" that i bake(usually half a sweet potato or less). (This recipe comes from a dash diet website)
I drink water or milk or a Naked juice during the 8 hours. I have a Cliff crunch bar for something sweet after lunch.. i eat a banana sometimes too. It's not like i pound food in those 8 hours. It's all sensible whole foods. I'm literally not hungry right now and it's 7:50am and i don't eat until 11. And i don't get hungry again after 7pm when I stop eating. All my meals are evenly sized and i don't get the 'i'm so full' feeling from any meal. I don't know.

Everyone is different that's for sure and what works for me might not work for someone else. But for someone like me who has tried everything.. this is working better than anything so far. So i'm happy :) Also, not drinking.. that's helped a lot too.

I was a normal weight (125 lbs) all of my life until I started consuming my calories within a few hours each day. After I stopped eating a normal breakfast, lunch and dinner and started skipping breakfast, waiting to eat a (small) lunch later in the day and then eating a large dinner, I gained 150 lbs. I gained about 100 lbs shortly after I started eating like that and then slowly gained the rest over many years (still eating all my calories within what was about an 8 hr period every day. Never could lose any weight until I changed 2 things: 1) I started eating decent sized breakfasts and lunches and normal sized dinners and 2) I got a food scale and started weighing out and then tracking all my food. I was able to lose almost 100 lbs after I went back to eating normally.

There's nothing magical about eating all your calories during a few hours of the day. A lot of people do this these days (skipping breakfast, saying they're not hungry during lunch (and maybe having a small lunch or no lunch at all) and then going home to consume all their calories at dinner and maybe a snack right after dinner. I think that most of the people doing this are doing what most Americans are doing these days--gaining weight. In my opinion, it's a form of disordered eating to starve yourself for most of the day and then consume all your calories during a few hours of the day (maybe not so bad if the calories are evenly spread over 8 hrs, but I'm willing to bet that a lot of people on the 8 hr diet will eat a small lunch and then basically binge eat all their remaining calories during dinner). There is also no real science behind the 8 hr diet. The key to weight loss is eating less calories and restricting your eating to 8 hours per day isn't automatically going to make you eat fewer calories than you burn. There's no weight loss benefit to starving your body for 2/3 of the day (or denying your body food for half or more of your waking hours, if you consider that most people are awake at least 16 hrs/day).

For someone who likes food and eating as much as I do..this is actually easier than you all think. And I feel better. I don't feel hungry and even on day two I ate way less. I started The DASH diet a few weeks ago so I apply those principles to this and only eat in the 8 hour window. Today is only day 3 so really it might be too soon to tell but I eat less when I don't eat breakfast and I am less hungry the next morning when I stop eating at 7 at night. I spend my morning drinking water and herbal tea and at night I have water with lemon. If you knew my eating habits this would shock you. Last night I was watching something on Netflix and really wanted popcorn but reminded myself I missed my window and the craving was gone. Mind over matter..and if this helps me lose more weight than I'm all in. :)

PS: if you read the books "Eat this Not that" it's by the same author. He suffered from high blood pressure which is why he made the's pretty interesting.
I am not endorsing this author or this diet. Just saying.. give it a shot like you would anything else. Don't knock it 'til you try it? If you go into something saying "i can't do that" then you won't and if it's not for you, it's not.

I thought the segment today was a pretty poor representation of the diet and the science behind it. The idea that the rules no longer apply and you can eat as much as you want of anything you want is just not true from my research.

In my short experience what has happened is the feeling of being full comes on pretty quick, making it pretty hard to overeat.

But if you want a real explanation of the science, I found this very helpful.

I watched the segment about this on the Today show this morning. I could see how it would work for people who are not emotional overeaters...if I gave myself a free pass, I could put away A LOT of food in 8 hours.

I think this is a very individual thing. My mom is an "eat every few hours" person. She eats small amounts all day long, and is very lean. She doesn't like large meals, and doesn't feel well if she goes too long without eating. On the other hand, I've never been a breakfast person - if I eat in the morning, I'll eat all day and overeat. If I have something small (like a granola bar) in the morning, a light lunch, and my largest meal for dinner around 6-7PM, I'm good. When I tried to go against this and follow the widely popular "eat every few hours" advice, I gained weight. So I do what works for me (it helps that my husband is naturally the same way).

I'm glad this is being publicized more. For years I felt like a freak because everything I read said, "if you want to be lean and healthy, you HAVE to eat a good breakfast." emoticon

Actually I have been doing a fair amount of readying and watching on this topic since I got wind of the diet. The better information can be found under intermittent fasting which is really all this so called "New" diet is.

The interesting bio-chemical effects on your body created by fasting are what makes it powerful and it's apparently very difficult to overeat. I guess I will know soon enough as I am taking a shot to see if the results match up to documentation.

There are many versions too, like doing a 18-24 fast once a week instead of the 16 hour 3-5 version.

Not to mention, if you ate this way for 3 days, how much more might you eat the other 4 days.

Also, how much energy would you have? I couldn't go more than 6-8 hours without eating, and if I did, I am sure my exercise would suffer.

It's simply "intermittent fasting". Look up that term.

Basically, when you only eat in a short period, your satiety will keep you from over-eating. The key for me is that I'd be simply too hungry in the fast period to deal with that!

This very subject was brought up at lunch.

Almost sounded "too good to be true" until I heard some of the facts.

I think most are right - stop eating/snacking after 7pm - that always helps!

I did not see this segment but the one later in the morning that had the woman who wrote The Virgin Diet.
I find the 8 Hour Diet interesting. He also says you don't have to do it every day to lose. You can do 3 days a week of eating like this and still lose. I don't see anything wrong with someone trying it if they want. You would still be getting the same calories and hopefully you would have sense enough to eat healthy foods and not fries and pizza all the time. emoticon

I get the theory behind it (you're cutting out late night snacking/around the clock eating that often isn't accounted for). But at the same time you're probably cutting out an entire meal, and it's not realistic for many to "eat as much as you want in this time frame, but not at all the rest of the time".

Come to think of it, my husband more or less does all his eating in an 8 hour period. He doesn't eat breakfast, eats his first thing of the day around noon or 1, snacks, eats dinner around 6, snacks more. He's consistently gained weight in the last few years (although slowly).

IMO it's the same type of advice as "cut out soda and lose 5 pounds in a month!" The advice assumes you're consuming bucket tons of soda (or bucket tons of calories while watching Letterman) and if you would just stop you're diet is otherwise healthy and fine (usually not the case).

New "fad" attempt as described in attached link.

What do the experts think about this? i think he overstates things a bit by playing up the "french fries, wine, and ice cream" angle in this, but the power foods concept is a good one. i just don't think i could make it to 10 or 11 am w/o eating.......
