Just understand that there is a HUGE developmental difference between 7, 8, and 9, much less 12 and up. ;) You can't really compare the performance of a 12 year old to a young 7 year old. Heck, my 7 year old has made enormous physical strides in the last 6 months!

I am on week 4 of the C25K program and my daughter that is 12 and my 17 year old are training with me. On occasion my 10 year old runs with me but since I run at the park he is more likely to be on the equipment.
The funny thing is, initially they teased me about being slow but now they can't keep up with me and stop before me! It has given us some bonding time, a team mentality, they encourage me and I encourage them. It's pretty cool and we have agreed to get matching Tshirts for our first 5 K :)

I think it's fabulous! Teach them to be active at this age and start some fabulous habits for their futures! :)
I kind of wish I could run (I have rheumatoid arthritis and can't do high impact), because I'd love to be able to do it with my kids. Recently my ten-year-old son has started doing my Leslie Sansone DVDs with me. LOL I'd love to just be able to take him out running! :)

I can't imagine that the distances involved in C25K would be harmful for them...but at the same time, it seems unlikely that you will be able to stick to the training program while wrangling 3 children under 7. Unless you are running very small circles or on a closed track, I can't see this as being very practical.

I would ask the doctor, but I don't think it would hurt.
My daughter ran a 5.5 mile fun run with me when she was ages 7,8, and 9. Now, at age 36, she coaches gymnastics, teaches Yoga, and performs with aerial silks. She performed last December as the Mouse "Queen" in the Nutcracker ballet as a dancer and aerialist.
She never liked jogging, but that combined with other sports as a kid, launched her into a lifestyle of fitness for the rest of her life.

I don't have children or anything, but I would say that if it's the C25K that shouldn't be too hard on them. If you get them decent trainers (and not fashion ones) and keep water in the stroller I would have thought it would be ok.

my 3 year old can run 1K pretty easily, lots of kids 8-10 years old are racing 5Ks hard. Running easy shouldn't be a problem.

I would say the best person to talk to would be their pediatrician. He or she can make the best determination of their ability, and can guide you on what's appropriate for them.
In general, kids are natural-born runners; they love to move, and as long as you're carefully monitoring their progress and NOT pushing them to do more than they're capable of, and including lots of rest time, it may be possibile. 5k may be a bit much for all running at 6 or 7, but there's no reason your child can't train with you. Kids are also VERY good at telling you exactly how far they can run. My youngest (5) sometimes runs with us when we walk (she has short legs, and a lot of energy.) After about a mile of intermittent running, it's "mommy, I'm tired!" and I end up having to carry her the last mile or so. ;)
I just started day one of the C25k programme. I have a jogging stroller for my baby but my two little boys wanted to come too. Is it safe for them to train with me if they have trainers and water etc? Or is it too tough on developing joints? They're used to long walks already?
