Adjusting is a great idea -- it's when we quit altogether that we have our major setbacks. After all, this is a lifestyle not a short run race! If you make yourself miserable trying to walk in weather that makes you extremely uncomfortable, you'll be more inclined to continue.
I live in the Pacific North Wet as well (grin), will be nice when it isn't getting dark at 4:15 in the afternoon.
