I'm with you, Corkym. I've counted calories all my life and they are the key to a healthy weight. BUT, I had the problem of always going over my limit or not getting enough to eat. I counted every single morsel for a month keeping with 1500 cals a day and lost nada. I was so mad, I was so hungry and determined not to put myself through that again, let alone the rest of my life. Now, I'm convinced that, for me at least, smaller portions and less fat are the key to my losing weight. I'm 68 and in relatively good health, but need to find an exercise routine that will make me feel good enough to keep doing -ha! I admire all y'all who are losing tons of pounds, but I don't need to be the same size I was at 30, so I'll be happy with 150. Keep it up, y'all! emoticon

IMHO I feel the most natural way to lose weight is to eat what you will probably be eating the rest of your life!! It is the best way to fit in with those around you and everything in moderation!!

I hadn't heard of it. I'll have to look it up.

I haven't heard of it, but then I know diets don't work. I've tried several and lost and as soon I stopped the weight came back. Being an SP addict I've learned to make healthy choice and lose weight weekly. I don't have to give up anything. I've beem doing this long enough I know the calories of each item I eat. I write it down on paper and in that way if I have something not on my sheet I can see if I'm over. Then when I get home from work I enter everything and that decides what I eat for dinner. Diets don't work. They are money grubbing people selling a product..

I tried it and lost weigh in the first phase, but nothing in the second. It is too restrictive for me.

No I haven't tried it but I won't try it because the 1st phase is too restrictive & I would quit so why even start.

I've tried a handful of diets: Southbeach, 3 day diet, slim fast, etc, and although I have had some success while I was doing them, the success turned to failure as soon as I went off of them. It gets tedious counting calories, (at least for me), but I've been doing better since I've been keeping track. You get used to it, just make it part of your daily routine! If you don't want to be constantly running to your computer everytime you eat something, just write it all down and you can enter it in later. If you're worried your getting close to your limit, then go enter everything in and see where you're at.

Diets don't work because they are all about restrictions- use sparks people and eat healthier choices all the time.. Keep meals the same structure as sparkspeoples generated meals watching the totals.. We have to do this journey for life and not just 17 days people..

I like the 17 Day Diet. But you do have to stick to it for it to work. I would suggest doing a combination of the 2. Do the 17 day and track the calories you do eat, Phase 2 just allows you to add back some healthy options like fruit and Whole Grains. But you still can eat too many calories. But what do I know I seem to stuck. But not giving up. Good Luck

Personally I would track calories. I saw the Seventeen Day diet on Dr. Phil and phase one seemed to strict. I am not sure about phase two as I knew I would never stick to phase one. I don't like diets that rely on phases, or where success demands that you buy their book or their system.

I don't really like tracking calories either, but I know if I don't I will gain all the weight back.

I did the phase one of the 17 day diet and I lost 9 lbs, but then I didn't progress to the next phase and gained back 5 lbs. thinking of starting over, or wondering if I should just commit to counting calories...it's just that I've never been a great tracker. Any advice?
