I always go with breads that have 100% whole wheat or whole wheat flour as the main ingredient because I was told to do so by my registered dietitian. She told me that you have to be careful about claims of "whole grains." Below is a link to a Spark People article about how to choose the best bread.

As I looked over the ingredients in the 2 breads---I think either of these breads would be a healthy choice. Even the mutli-grain contains mostly whole grains and whole grain flours. It also has wheat bran to bump up fiber. Like I said---either is a good choice. Do you prefer the taste of one over the other??

I've also consumed wheat my entire weight loss journey in the form of bread and pasta, and I was able to lose weight just fine as everyone can see from my ticker. I don't find wheat to be addictive either. That said, I always go for 100% whole wheat bread. Just my preference.
Yojulez said everything I wanted to, but much more eloquently than I was putting together. I also eat wheat products (100% low carb whole wheat bread and whole wheat or multi grain English muffins on occasion), and I don't think I'm "addicted" to them, I simply enjoy them. And, I've lost weight. But, that's another thread entirely. If it's 100% Whole Grain, then I think it's whichever you prefer. I think the "key" words are 100% Whole.

I don't eat a ton of bread but it is my understanding that unless the multigrain bread is also whole grain, then whole wheat is better. If the multigrain bread is not whole grain, then it's about the same as eating white bread.
And SUNSHINE, I do not find wheat products to be addictive or fattening at all. I can take them or leave them, although I tend to take them, in the form of pasta, and have no issues with losing weight whatsoever.
Whole wheat bread ...no way...not even multigrain for this girl...forget the calories....worry about this....
Wheat contains a Super Starch -- amylopectin A that is super fattening. Wheat contains a form of Super Gluten that is super-inflammatory..being fat is being inflammed Wheat contains forms of a Super Drug that is super-addictive and makes you crave and eat more.
Dark Rye Bread is the way to go...besides it disgest slowly keep one's blood sugar steady

Hi there, wondering which bread is better for you, the 100% whole wheat or Multigrain bread? The two breads I'm looking at are both the Sara Lee 45 calories per slice ones. They both have 90 calories, 5g fiber, and 6g protein for a sandwhich, but wondering if by looking at the ingredients someone can tell me if one is better than the other. Or if just by default 100% whole wheat is always the way to go with bread.
Basically I just try to avoid simple carbs as much as I can, but a sandwhich is just so convenient to take to campus. I wish I could go for Exekiel bread or something, but its so much more money and the whole freezer thing is a hassle.
