Hello Blue and Red Teams: Boy this board has been busy today. Glad to see and read the discussions. I'm for whatever works, use it (within reason and common sense). Hope you all have a great weekend. Remember to get moving and track your foods. We have a 50th birthday party to go to on Sunday which will be a challenge I'm sure. So I'm trying to fit in more fitness and really watch what I eat.

Hey everyone...
ok, a lot of milestones, a little drama, with a generous heap of support going on in the boards!
First, congrats to Michelle and Cruise on your milestones. It's all about celebrating the wins! You gals have definitely crossed some bridges. Michelle, I used to run a lot, and when I started exercising again (in late August), I started jogging on the treadmill -- I walked for 10 minutes, and then jogged (REALLY slowly) for five, then walked again for the rest... Then I started increasing by adding some more five minute intervals, and before I knew it I jogged for 20 minutes one day... It's amazing how the small steps add up, but back in the day, I would have thought -- "jog five minutes? what's THAT gonna do?" But SP has taught me to celebrate the small victories and they add up!
I think that we all have small wins to celebrate just for being here and keeping ourselves accountable to each other! Cruise again... thanks for starting this challenge...
I debated on whether or not to add my 2 cents to the whole BL book thing. Shara, don't let anyone make you feel bad about trying something new! You have made a decision to give the BL book a try along with the support of SP, and it sounds like a GREAT idea! Sometimes support comes by way of differing opinions -- and they can give you something to think about. I'm sure that you read the book and that you would be able to tell if there was something just completely off the wall... Over time, in trying different things, you'll discover what works. I can certainly see how you would feel discouraged by what you felt were negative comments about something that you felt very passionate about. I didn't find Coach Jen's "2 cents" post at all offensive. I didn't understand Lynnbaum's first post (about the candy) but I think that what she said about the labels -- while it could be true, just makes stuff way too confusing for me... I have to read the labels, because that's usually have... (sorry Lynn).
The support is great, but without the knowledge of what you eat and exercise, you won't grow. So, read your book girl!!! And strengthen your mind and body...
Ok, on another note, Jojomke, thanks for posting your collage, it is helpful to see it and to get some ideas!
Take care all... that's my 27 cents!
Michele

Oh Will be thin You took that all wrong or should I say I wrote it all wrong. What I wanted to say is that I feel the support of others is far more important than the diet itself. We are all smart and I gave you tons of credit for bring information to our board. We all know how to eat it's doing it that is hard. I read labels a lot and like I said I was surprised when I learned how far off those labels could be. Please if I said something please forgive me I didn't mean it that way. I feel like it is us against the world of food. I need to know that I'm not in a big boat alone. All I want to do is offer support to the group and take support for my own battles to over come my food addiction. I have to go eat and feed husband.

hey all..Ok this is too much drama for my Momma.. I am glad that some of us are in agreement that Lynne's post was very confusing..I too didnt get the candy store thing..Now that said we are all different..wE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT BODIES AND METABOLISMS..so that being said and seeing what Coach Jen said-a combination of things/or whatever works for you is the easy approach. For instance at 210 X 7 =1470.00 I just dont think I would loose eating that everyday..I try to stay around 1200..Lately its been more on some days..Now Coach Jen will argue with me Fine..She isnt GOD and I do what I want..also I think if you weighed 150 I dont think you would be obese nor need to eat that many cals.. who knows we are all here to share what works for us what we like....Take it or leave it..In honesty shara I dont think anyone wanted to discourage, offend you, hurt you..Its hard being like us-overly sensitive people..I hope you dont stop coming around..I have always found you very inspirational to me..
Ok well..I am not loosing and I have a goal of trying to get some walking in over the weekend..I am getting my hair cut tonite and I am supposed to have a date... Laters all FG

| shara, please don't feel shot-down. my interpretation of jen's input was quite different than yours. you mentioned the book and it got me thinking about taking a look myself. and then jen provided validatation that it's very similar to SP with a lower calorie range. she acknowledged the fact that diff things work for diff people. all of this discussion, including coach jen's comments, has actually led me to think that it might be a nice book to read as a supplement to the SP program. it was all good/healthy/learning discussion and you deserve a great deal of credit for getting the discussion going. thank you.

Hey Everyone,
I've returned from a work retreat - lots of food but i think i did pretty well staying on track. I think the holiday BL challenge is a GREAT idea! I'm all for it! This challenge has really helped me to stay motivated - and it's been great to meet so many SP losers!
Hope everyone has a great & healthy weekend. I'm going to try my best - my mom's coming to visit so that should be fun. Hope everyone is able to get outside and enjoy this beautiful fall weather (that is, if it's beautiful where you are)!

Shara,
I apologize if I upset or offended you at all. Like I said, everyone has to figure out what works best for them- sometimes its SP, sometimes it's a combination of SP and something else, and sometimes it's something totally different. I'm not shooting down the program at all, just giving my 2-cents since a few other people were asking about it. I think it's great that you are trying to figure out what's going to work for you.
Again, I apologize.

Thanks Sue for your kind words and Michelle Congrats on your milestone.. i think you have a great thing going and i know you'll reach your goal by your b-day.. when my ankle gets better i may try that...
As far as the book goes it was only my opinion which i will now keep to myself.... It's no different then people coming on here talking about ww , herbal life , or south beach , or etc.. I have tried every diet every diet pill and had an eating disorder .. i am just looking for some direction so i don't fall back into my old patterns and not being able to excerisze is killing me.... didn't mean to start any contreversary... but once again like most things go w/me i say something and i get shot down.. dh does it and my mom has always done it.. and now that's how i feel on here.. i'm really sorry.. i will come back to report my weigh in on tuesdays.. sorry don't mean to sound like i'm whinning but i just thought i'd share my new find w/ya since its the title of our board here...
best of luck to ya... please excuse me if i'm not myself but i just find it funny that i mention another diet or whatever you want to call it and Jen i feel like you are all over it to show everyone that i'm wrong and that it isn't gonna work... well so far nothing has worked for me... so it won't be a huge let down if this doesn't either... but i'm gonna give it my best da*! shot...
I'll be done now.. sorry to those of you i offended.. shara

Hello again!
I should have just waited to post the last time until I looked at the book, but here's my 2-cents about the diet (keeping in mind that I am not a dietitian):
I think their program is basically like SP and you just track your food a little differently. So whichever way works best for you, I think it's fine. The only reservation I have is about their calorie recommendations, which seem pretty low. The calculation they use is your weight times 7 to come up with your calories for the day. So if you weigh 150 lbs, your calorie goal would be 1050- and I didn't see that you can eat any extra if you exercise. Like I said, just my 2-cents, but I think that's too low.
Hope that helps!
Coach Jen

| Michelle and Sue, I agree completely about setting baby step milestones, especially for running. I had never run in my life until last June, I decided I wanted to give it a try. My husband encouraged me to take it real slow, and I'm glad I took his advice, or I would have given-up, discouraged. At first, I couldn't run 100 yards without feeling like collapsing, so I would run a little and then walk. I would add a little more running each time. Even though I wasn't running long distances, I measured how much FURTHER I ran each time (not how FAR) and was encouraged by the fact that it got better and better each week. So... instead of feeling discouraged, I felt proud. 4 months later (just last week), I ran a 5k race without stopping and am looking forward to increasing my distance. Anyway, just my 2 cents...

Hi Everyone!
Congrats to those of you having big milestones this week! You are all doing really well!! If you've done a collage or plan to do one, report back to us and let us know how it went and what you learned!
We have a copy of the biggest loser book at our office, so I'm going to check it out today. If it provides good information and works for you, I don't think there's anything wrong with trying something a little different! I'll let you know what I think
Everyone ready for the weekend? Let's stay on track RED team and get our second win in a row next week!
Coach Jen

Michelle, Good idea with the jog 2 houses, walk 2...I had never thought of that. I think waaaaayyyyy too big, then disappoint myself or kill myself living up to expectations. But I digress, this is not Psychology 101. Good job on the mileston of the miles! Sue

Awesome Cruise!!
I had a milestone last night and wasn't going to mention it but Sue, I am like you, I don't "accept" my milestones. I have been walking 2.2 miles in 30 minutes for the last several weeks. Last night I thought I'm ready to step it up, 1) because I'm getting bored -- lol and 2) I know my cardio needs to be stronger. When I got on the backside of my walk (down a neighborhood street that's not as bright as the main street I walk in - someday I hope to not feel like I have to hide) -- but I decided I was going to jog some -- so my baby steps are: walk 2 houses, jog 2 houses, walk 2, jog 2 until I finished the .75 miles back to my house -- I figured I got maybe .25 miles in jogging. I haven't jogged in nearly 3 years, it felt good and I feel more energized this morning. My long term goal is to be able to jog the entire 2.2 miles by my birthday next year (March).
Wishing everyone healthy eating and strong exercise this weekend! Go Red! Go Blue! Okay, one more GO RED!!
Michelle

Congrats, Cruise! That is a tremendous milestone! I have a tendancy to overlook some of these milestones and get down on myself for not exceeding my own expectations...you handle milestones excellently! Again, CONGRATULATIONS! TTFN, Sue

WOW 100 DAYS!! That is AWSOME!!! On a Yahoo group I had tried more than once to do 100 workouts (average of 5 per week) during a period of time. I never made it, something always happened and I couldn't get back into it. I am sure I will try again, but might have to take smaller amounts at a time. Maybe 20 - 25 workouts a month. Instead of the HUGE 100! Beckie

I agree with Cruise, JoJo, nice collage...I think I will try to work on mine this weekend. The weather report calls for rain this weekend in Cincy, so maybe this is a good bad weather thing to do! Thanks for sharing, Sue

Shara, I think what you said is fine and I think we all need to use the "things"/people that help us in this weight loss/fitness path. If this book works for you, so be it! AND even Coach Jen, a SparkPeople Resident, wanted to see the book and check it out. That is the opinion I would concern myself with, if a professional says there are some problems with the books ideas. But as an intelligent, thinking adult, if you feel this book is helping you, then you should go for it! You are fine in what you said and did...I think maybe we all misunderstood some of what Lynn said. I was a little puzzled by her post also. But when she replies, I am sure it will be all cleared up. Take care and have a great day...how's that ankle? TTFN, Sue

Congrats Cruisepuppy on 100 days and 15 pounds! Wow, I'm so impressed. Good idea to tape Denise Austin too. I have a bunch of her programs taped. She's a real motivator and one of my favs.
Here's to a successful weekend!

Morning all --- question LynnBaum did i say something wrong about the BL book i'm reading? You seem irritated w/me or the book... did i say you could lose weight eating candy? Cause that's one little section in the book on what to avoid.. i hope i didn't offend anyone.. i can tell Jen wasn't sure about it either which is fine .. however I enjoy it and i'm gonna go w/it... I CAN'T lose weight or haven't been very sucessful so i might as well try different things.. Heck i already use the sp tracker and ww tracker so why not one more...lolol it's gotta work sometime.. and i have to be the one to make it happen... i just want my ankle and knee to get better so i can excersize...
So hopefully your not upset w/me lynn or anyone else.. i just can't figure out what your post is replying to other then me...
Cruise great job on your weight loss and on you 100 posts.. that's very inspiring...

I know! This is a very active and enthusiastic group...I LOVE it!
I just have to share a big milestone in my SP program with you guys. I have been doing a streak of using the foodtracker everyday, and exercising (6 days a week). Wednesday was my 100th DAY!!!!!!! The first few days to a week seemed slow, but after that the time just flew by, and I don't know how 100 came so fast! I lost 15 pounds in that first 100 days, so it worked!!!
I love your collage, JoJo! I've started clipping pictures and words for mine, and I hope to work on it this weekend. And thanks for the link, Coach Jen!
I'm also excited that we just got a DVR player and now I can tape Denise Austins exercise shows and do them before work in the morning. It was always on after work before, so this will be great!

Thanks Cruise. I think it sounds like a great idea. And I will be glad to join everyone.
I can't believe how many posts we have been doing on this board. I have to go back about 2 pages to find my last weigh in each week.

| I would like to add my 2 cents about the BL diet. No diet works without support and no real diet will say you can lose weight by eating out of a candy store. (Maybe you can but you wont be healthy) I found that when I kicked the additives & preser. (A & P) I slept a lot better. Fox cable news puts me right out. If the biggest loser book blows the lid off the crap that is in our, more power to education on lable reading. I did hear that some of those lables can be off by 10-30% so if you read something and say "I can't believe that is all that is in there" watch out. You could be reading a 30% product. Those places that weigh thing are doing you a favor be keeping things consistant. I have to get back to running parts. LB

Believe me, I understand, Gwynnie...sometimes for me, even crying didn't make it any better. So far, no insomnia...but I used to have that and it isn't fun. I hope your pain will lessen soon. TT, Sue

Holiday challenge sounds fun. I definitely need some extra motivation to avoid all those cookies and candies.

Gwynnie, I know what you mean about the insomnia. I have problems sometimes and it really is bad because then I just feel wiped out the next day. I have been a little better since I do not eat after dinner, but still having some problems. Donna

Hi Cruisepuppy! I'll get a photo of my collage and post it later today. It's not large, just a regular size piece of paper but it definitely works!
