My favorite mom website is www.momtomomchat.com it's free to register and the support network is AWESOME!! My username is the same in both places, I've been there since June of 2005! I just love that place, the group of women there are so supportive too.
As for local? Well, I don't know what to say, I've had a hard time meeting other local mom's too. My DH walks with me nightly as I push DS in the stroller.

It is so hard to make new friends when you have a new baby. I gained a lot of weight after my pregnancies because I was so lonely! you should check out cafemom.com put in your new zip code and search for mom's in your area. I made a couple of good friends on there. Also, definitely check out the library...even if you don't meet anyone it is so nice to get out of the house. I don't know if you are interested, but there are some church's that have MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) programs..it is for mom's with children of all ages and that is a REALLY REALLY good resource. It is something just for you, and a nice way to meet people for sure. I know you said church hasn't been successful but are there other church's you can check out because that has been that absolute hugest outlet for me to make new friends. what about your mall? our mall has a little kids play area and there are always moms there.
Good luck! keep your chin up, I know it's so hard. www.mops.org

It's hard. I am happy to say, it gets easier. Look into the local library for mommy and me programs, see if there is a local parks and rec department, or try looking online for a mom support group. Here in Indiana our support group is indymoms.com

one month after giving birth to my daughter my first, my husband moved us to a new state. Away from my big family and not working i found that my weight from the pregnancy wasn't coming off. so not only am i over weight but i am lonely. Before baby i would work 55-60 hours a week(pastry chef). Now a stay at home mom in a new state, so where do i make new friends? I try to go to the park to walk but its all older women or the playground at the park but its all children with moms but the children are older than my five month old daughter. I don't work and i don't have that much time to shop, and church is hasn't been that successful. So where do i make friends to workout with or for support? what would you do/
