By ninth grade she gotten better by 10th grade so was good, now she is in the 11th grade and will be 17 she is doing excellent!!! hang in there mom i do believe she is going to come around, she will find herself soon..good she is head strong, she is going to be one strong healthy smart woman just like my daughter has become. We r the blessed ones we don't want followers. I see so much hope for her u have a smart daughter! she will blossom and become very happy and secure with herself...I would say good luck but its not needed she will do great! have a great day!

I do think that my daughter's depression is mostly caused from her trying to find herself also. She has been having friend issues at school too. She is very independent and is finding her own style. She refuses to follow the crowd and give-up being her "own" person. It is very admirable but not always easy for her since she is in middle school. She seems to be doing better lately and she has not had to give up the things that she likes to do and the things that she believes in. I am very proud of her, I just wish that there was something I could do to make it easier. She is very bright and a straight A student.

my oldest went through that during ages 13=15 by 15 in a half she was out and happy again.. She was having a hard time finding herself and friends I think. She now is very happy with a group of very smart, creative healthy people. They are all vegetarians or vegans and are all very smart. She was just lost in those years she always was the more uptight one of my two girls. The other one is the comic and soon to be 13 and she is happy go lucky. hang in there it may pass..How old is your daughter? Also is she very bright? My daugther is and I think it was boredom could that be a factor in your daughter?

It is a constant struggle and worry. I find my moods go all over the map....I empathize with you all...

I agree though, you do, as a parent, need to continue to work on our own selfs in terms of exercise and health...which is some days it seems just another battle.

I am looking into getting some concrete support in terms of a local group and it seems that we are so not alone...

I am going to put it on a blog on my sparks page later today, and if anyone would care to continue discussion there, I would love to share the journey with others.

I am finding the teenage years are hard to manage --- I worry and try to trust and let go --- I try to remember it is his journey and that I can guide but not control and manage the outcome. I doubt myself a lot but love my teenage boy a lot.

hi there ... my son on the autism spectrum is struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts as well. it's always helpful i find, to share how we, the parents are feeling, 'cause we also need support. i find that the amount of intervention i still need to do has kept me from regular or sustained fitness and nutrition for years ... i hope i'm not just making an excuse. And now i'm really trying to do something positive for my own health.

I too have a teenage daughter that suffers from depression. It is very scary and I am constantly wondering if what I am doing is right.

I read the other thread with children with special needs and my prayers go out to all of you.

I have a teen in "crisis". This is apparently the new descriptive for a teen with a personality, mood disorder, or depression and at risk for suicide.

I wonder if anyone else share similar struggles with a child. I would love to talk with you!
