The original reason I started this was because I found out my 14-yr-old has metabolic syndrome. After doing some research for her and seeing what needed to be done with all our diets, I was really gung-ho. She was able to lose 50lbs. and was an inspiration to all of us in the house. Then, she started high school and kind of got off track with the pressures of honors classes, trying to do some extra-curricular activities and the whole making new friends thing. I have been trying since September to get her to exercise with me, telling her that she has to watch what she eats, etc. I think maybe she's coming around, but it hasn't been easy. Ultimately, we all have to look at ourselves and see the real picture, make our choices and live with them, even if it means fighting an uphill battle with your family. All you can do is be the best example possible.

I sympathize with you as my hubby who pushed me to to pursue this weight loss has not been as supportive as I would like. Meaning while I am eating turkey burgers and whole wheat pasta he is eating hamburgers and potato chips. I have a 10 year old daughter who is overweight as well so I decided to have her join in with me only she fights me at every turn. The only thing I can suggest is just to get determined and lead by example. This is what I have been doing and slowly it seems to be helping. I think it comes to a stale mate where everyone feels like "If they won't then why should I." I know I have come to that lots of times but if you can find it within yourself to keep yourself motivated then they will eventually decide that if you are sticking with it and not giving up maybe they should too. Also, if you haven't already, let them know how you feel about this and how important it is to you that everyone does this with you. Good Luck!!!

You know I thought this was going to be easy to do this weight loss with my husband who just got home from iraq and gained 40lbs and my father. But they have no motivation. All they seem to do is nit pick. I am making easy recipes that are super flavorful. We each have a dog that we can walk. I have even spared us all a few calories so we can have a dessert. But still NO motivation. My husband and I are having problem trying to get pregnant so this was the big push to help us get that way. I have been to numerous doc's appointments, after numerous doc's appointment. Trying to come up with why I cant get pregnant and while they are running all these tests they say you know changing nutrition will help, I HAVE DANGET! But the lack of motivation is killing me. My husband wants the baby worse than I do and my father keeps saying when do I get a grandbaby. Well I want to tell them to get off their duffs and get motivated. The problem that I am having is if they wont get motivated i have been going into this "well if they wont why should i." Help me please!
