| i have set food that are just for me...it also helps to buy things that are good for u that they wont eat...like frozen veggies and sugar free stuff...my hubby only gets into my sugar free pudding if there is no ice cream or reg. pudding in the house.

| This one is kind of funny, but my hubbie will go for my healthy snacks before I can even taste them. I hide them behind my box of tamponds. He will not go in that area, so my snacks are safe.

haha! That's great Linda... I think the piece of mind things is the way to go!
I guess I should have gave more detail. My husband just found out he is a type 2 diabetic and shouldn't be eating as much as he is. I do buy mostly healthy food choices, BUT, as you know, if you eat a whole bag of Snackwell cookies there is nothing healthy about it. That's pretty much were I stand with him .... Not only is he eating my portions, but he doesn't need to be for his own health reasons. He just doesn't see it as eating more than he should, even though I go over the serving size on the box with him.
I have started hiding my share of the food so I don't get left high and dry. Now, if I can just keep it a secret! I'm still worried about him controlling what he is eating, but I just don't seem to get anywhere.

I know portion control i smy DH biggest problem. I use the smaller plates (I set the table). He will fill it up three times, that is his choice. I have done all I can for him, he needs to want to learn. Now for DGD (4 yr old) who we are raising, I still portion out her food. She eats really well and likes pretty much everthing, including vegetables. But I do worry about how much she can eat at times. As long as she is not out of proportion with her weight, I am not going to stress over it. She has a lot of energy and I know she burns those calories really fast. I think she is going through a growing spurt right now. She never stops saying she is hungry.
I agree with the other posters, just make more and maybe label your food, so they will have to think twice before taking your lunch or snack. If they continue to take it anyway, then I would let them have a big piece of my mind. LOL

| For our dinner meals I started to make just enough. There are no seconds or leftovers. Then they will learn portion control too. It has helped my 7 year old and my husband.

Jillsforreal, this is a typical pattern of families. Men and kids just EAT. Be grateful you've made them healthy meals, and they aren't pigging out at the local fast food franchise.
Can you make triple what you're making now? Yes, it's expensive. But would you rather YOU not have what you need because they've eaten it all? Is it more expensive than that double cheese and burger and bacon concoction at the local drive-through? Is it more expensive than the medicine you may have to buy to clear up their blood vessels because they ate at that same drive-through? (Let me tell you, those drugs ARE EXPENSIVE! Buy the food!)
It seems that you may need to rethink this a bit. Rather than being upset that they've eaten all this good, healthy food they've made disappear, REJOICE they are learning good food habits. STOP telling them not to eat it, push another helping at them! If they don't have weight issues, that is.
Of course that may backfire, if they start eating bad-for-them-foods again.
So, if you make more than usual, you should be able to still have what you need. You may have to keep working on this, until you get it down. Small, baby steps, until you get the hang of it.
Also, do you MARK your food? When I had three teens living at home, I had to do this. I'd label it: MOM, spinach and squash. They'd leave that alone, even it if were lasagne. LIE to them. Go ahead, you're allowed!

Oh, same here... I'm 5'5 and my husband is 6'4. I did just find a place under the cabinets he never goes, so as long as it doesnt have to stay in the fridge, I think I got my hiding spot. :-)

Cabinet above the stove... Nice! LOL Although, for me, I'm 5'2 and my husband's 6'3, so I need to find a spot to hide my low calorie reward treats.... Anybody?

| I have a little cabinet over the stove where I keep my extra special TTOM treats. Because it's never been used for anything, I think the rest of the family has forgotten it's there.

I had the same problem, especially if it was something he liked. So what I do now, I plate the food in the kitchen before I take it to the table. I make a plate for me, hubby, my extremely picky two year old (although she usually refuses to eat it)and then I pack the rest into "tupperware" and put it in the freezer or fridge. Then when he asks if there is more, I say Nope but you can make yourself a salad

I have the same problem with my family. I want them all to eat healthy, but there comes a time when they are in the health mood and they eat up all my food. For instance, I love Hummus I bought it for myself and 1 night when i went to the frig to get some for my celery or just eat it with carrits, guess what no more Hummus. The dd eat it all. I was like Where is the Hummus I bought? DD says Oh I eat it, it was good.Now I BUY 1 FOR HER AND 1 FOR ME EACH WEEK.

haha - I know what you mean. The same thing happens to me. I casually told my husband tonight that he may want to try using a smaller plate (so the portion will look larger). He always grabs the biggest dinner plates we have. I usually use lunch plates myself. If you can set the table before him, try using smaller plates. It didn't really work for me, but maybe you'll have better luck

Stop buying the other items at the store and just buy more of what you are eating.
I am laughing at this since my husband has no idea about the healthy things I make for dinner and only will touch it if it looks like it has a lot of fat in it.

So, what do you do when your Husband and Son are eating all the healthy food you buy/make ... IN TRIPLE SERVINGS! I buy and make these healthy foods, then my husband(mostly) eats the whole dang thing! I keep telling him it's not healthy if you eat the whole thing, but it doesn't get me anywhere. I swear, I'm about to start hiding my food. HELP!!!
It's really hard for me to stay on track when he does this ... I go to get my lunch or snack and they are all gone. It tends to lead me to eating other things I hadn't planned and losing control.
Any words of advice?
