Yes, we have started today to get rid of the junk. They knew it was coming. My 17 year old really watches what he eats for wrestling the younger ones dont have to worry about it so much, but I told them we were going to join Seth in his eating habits. Sometimes I can pick up a sandwich in the airport, but only in certain ones do they have what you are talking about. Usually my goal is to get in say to Newark...rent a car drive to the inter city, do my site visit and catch a plane back home the same day, there are not alot of places to stop and get something especially when I dont have a clue where I am and map quest is all I have to find where I am going. LOL...I do try to eat better when I stay the night but some places are not conducive to safely leaving my room and in that case I have to order what I can have delivered. I loved it when the airports let you take your own food and drink in with you but with these times that has been stopped. It is a challenge to say the least. I thank you for your input, it has given me some things to think about, maybe I can buy a piece of fruit and a drink and take with me out of the airport, I had not thought of that before! Thanks so much! Pam

First of all welcome to Spark People. As for the eating in car, you are right, salads are not very portable. But why don't you try whole grain rolls with a slice of tomato, lettuce and low fat ham in it as a lunch? And when you need to snack, pre cut fruit and veggies are a great option. Also when your sweet tooth wakes up you might try one of those 100 cal packs offered by most malls.
When it comes to your family cooking while you're away. You can prepare parts of the meal beforehand and get them heat them up later. Frozen veggies are a great way to incorporate something green to dinners.
If you want to make your's youngest diet better you simply need to get rid of all the junk food from your home. It will not solve the problem immediately but might really help incorporate better eating habits.
Hope I've helped a bit.

I want to introduce myself and my family and ask a few questions. I am new to the spark community and to this message board. I have been married to the same man for 28 years. I am a mom of 7 children now ages 12 to 27. Four of them are still living at home and one is in collage. There are 6 sons and one daughter. I had a home child care for 10 years and went to work outside the home when my youngest was starting first grade. I now work as a sales rep for a commercial playground company and I am away from home in the spring and summer more then I am home and am home most in the winter. I do work at home three to four days a week in a home office when I am in town. I would love to know ideas of how you incorporate a healthy lifestyle for your family and get them to eat it! What food suggestions does anyone have for foods they can fix while I am away? I have an older son with a paralyzed stomach who is very limited in his diet and he must have special foods for the most part that arent to healthy and the younger boys want to sneak them. At this time the kids do not have weight issues but especially the youngest has a diet high in junk. Also any suggestions for airport eating and most of all eating in the car! I spend hours driving to keep a strict schedule of appointments and I find salads are not conducive to driving LOL...any help here? Also any good quick excercises??? I need to work it in a very busy lifestyle and cant seem to find time! Thank you for you input in advance! I hope that I can learn and share with you as we journey this weight loss thing...I have 50 pounds to loose that have been added in the last 6 years, a family bent toward diabetes and at the age of 48 it is time to get a grip on this!
