I too am a recovered annorexic with bulemic tendencies.. It is a constand struggle every day, and one heck of a roller coaster ride. My best advice as for what worked with me is getting to a point where I was commited to a psych ward at a hospital for trying to starve myself... when they admitted me the physician that did my entrance exam said had I not gotten help I could have been dead in a matter of weeks, my organs were starting to shut down. Be supportive, never put them down.. I got so tired of hearing "why can't you just be normal". The food really isn't the issue, it is just the only thing that is controlable, get down to the root of the problem. A great therapist is the best start, as well as being honest about having the eating disorder. Then as family stand behind them, and know thatthe recovery is in some way more physically painful than starving yourself. Everyone is going to slip a time or two.. it is like any other addiction, honesty and patience is the key. Just my humble opinion. Good luck

I was exactly like that starting at 19 in college! It took LOTS of therapy and getting on anti-depressents and although mine is much better it is something I have to conquer every day.

a lot of things helped me get over this. A lot of therapy, excercise, and seeing a homeopath who put me on a lot of vitamins to help with the depression. It took me a LONG time to get over this and it was living hell. I wish you and your family strength during this hard time.

i myself used to be anorexic and bulimic, staving and then binging, for some people is is a way of controlling their lives.
society makes it so hard on people to be thin and perfect.
May i suggest counceling for him , that may help.
God bless and good luck

My 20 year old son has been starving himself, and then has uncontrollable binging. He is seeing specialists, but gets sooo depressed when he binges I don't know how to help him. anyone face the same thing or have any ideas to help him with the binging or anything else?
