Okay, after reading everyone's suggestions and thoughts, I think I've got a plan. For breakfast, I give him cereal with fruit and some Cheerios for finger foods. For lunch he has a jar of Stage 3 dinner and a mini bagel half or roll. For dinner (because he still has reflux issues and constipation problems), he usually has a stage 3 fruit and then baby raviolis or some other finger food. Granted, that's my perfect plan - that doesn't happen every day.

I think you should definitely alternate jar food and regular food for now.

I know it can be frustrating, but it can take up to 12 introductions per food for a kiddo to actually eat the food you're trying to give him/her, so don't get frustrated.

At that stage, I made sure that I introduced the new foods and always had a favorite back up. My boy loved applesauce and squash, so I always had that around if he didn't like the new foods.

Wow I don't know! Has his doctor said anything regarding the reflux and him throwing everything up? I agree, you should try and offer him jar food and a bit of finger foods for all three meals (or however often you feed him) just to get an idea of what he will actually eat. My 2 year old is picky as can be, and when she was younger than one, she let me know exactly which jar foods she liked. But she always ate my food so I havent experienced what you're going through with your son. Even though you missed talking with the pediatrician at the 9 month well check, dont be afraid to make another appointment to bring him and and talk to his doctor. My newborn has some digestion issues as well, and we put her on soy formula which helped a bit, but the doctor suggested we may have to put her on some medication as well so she doesn't spit up all of her formula. That may be a consideration for your situation too?

He's been on cereal and stage 2&3 jars for months now, but had no interest in actual food up until about 2 weeks ago. He has a wicked gag reflex and anytime he had real food in his mouth he'd gag until he threw up. He's finally got that under control now and will eat anything I'm willing to give him. He's supposed to be moving to cow's milk after his 1 yr check-up.

I don't think I'm feeding him enough though. He had some of my pancake this morning as well as some fruit salad. Then he started chucking things and wanted down. He took a nap for 2 hours, got up and was just cranky as could be. I gave him his bottle, which he didn't drink entirely, about 5 ounces, and then proceeded to whine until lunch. I gave him the pieces of my soup - carrots, chicken, noodles, and a piece of my roll, but he started chucking everything off his tray until I brought out a jar of food that he sucked right down.

Maybe I should be doing a mix of jar food and finger foods at every meal?

10 Months old and just now eating finger foods? When did you start giving him the cereals? By now he should be more than ready to eat the stage 2 and 3 gerber jars, as well as trying foods that you eat. Whether you breastfeed or are on formula, he needs to be getting his nutrition elsewhere. My daughter was off formula on her 1st birthday and only eating regular foods and cows milk.

You be the judge of how much he should eat. His signs of throwing food will tell you he's done or not interested.

Thanks JULZ! I've been giving him finger foods AND a stage 2 jar of food if he doesn't seem to eat much. Sometimes he'll eat until he spits it all back up (he's got reflux), so I have to watch him. He's like a goldfish.

I'm just not sure if I should quit with the baby food entirely or not. I SHOULS have thought to ask my pediatrician at the 9 month check-up, but of course I forgot!

I have a 20 month old son. I remember that about that time, we started with the gerber graduates pasta pick ups, etc. It seemed that he would eat about half of the container at that time. I would usually just keep a cup of the food next to me and as he finished, I'd add a few more pieces. As soon as he started throwing it off the side of the highchair, I knew he was done. Every kid I've known has had a different penchant for eating at that time, so I'd just experiment. He'll definitely let you know when he's done.
Good luck!

My son is 10 months and starting on finger foods. Does anyone know how much a baby his age should eat? I've been scouring the Internet for info, but have only been able to find lists of good food ideas.
