Probably keeping a diary of her eating and exercise, without being particular about amounts at first at least, would be the best way to go.

Teach her how to cook healthy things, like eggs, lean meats, personal pizzas using tortillas or whole wheat split pitas or ww english muffins as crusts. Teach her to roast vegies, and get a rice cooker so it is quick and easy to cook brown rice (add 1/4 cup extra water to brown rice to get it to cook longer).

Make sure you both get your vitamins and minerals in the day. You eating healthy should make it a lot easier for her to do so too. Set the example.

There is SparkTeens.com -- it's aimed at kids 13 and older, but maybe there would be some help there for you and your daughter.

I am new to Spark & my daughter (she is 10) thinks it's the coolest thing ever. She is interested in joining a group like this for kids, to help them lose weight. Does anyone know of any online websites for kids that she could use for encouragement? I can't think of anything but haven't searched yet. She has never been interested in getting serious about losing and she needs to. I am thrilled to see her interested. I may just have to create her a spreadsheet to track everything & give her some realistic goals to work for. Thanks for anything you know of.
