Volunteer at a local daycare/nursery. They will teach the correct way to do a lot of things with babies.

Is there anyone else you can talk to? Or maybe take a childcare class/babysitting class. They have them through community colleges or hospitals. They had one at the hospital where I had my first child. It was really basic with things like feeding and holding babies.

My SIL is having a baby but for certain reasons I can't have her be aware of my stupidness when it comes to babies so I cannot talk to her or ask for help.

That's a great question.

Spend some time around friends or relatives who have babies. Ask them questions about how to care for babies. I didn't have my first baby until I was 36, but when I was younger my friends were having babies and I spent a lot of time with them. I have learned over the years, its not just holding a baby, but its learning how to play with and talk to babies and then children and now in my life teens. And its not always an automatic process that you can just do.

Don't stress about it. Before my daughter was born, I had never been around a baby before. It was a bit awkward trying to hold her during the first day or so (I was so scared of doing it wrong), but then you just start to get a feel for it--like strength training, lol.

When you have a baby they will show you how to hold the baby in the hospital. Probably sitting down the 1st few times until you get used to it.

i don't have a baby, i don't want a baby (neither does DH) so why bother with a question you don't need answer for now??:))

when you'll get pregnant you have 9 months to read abt taking care of a baby.

so meantime, forget abt babies!:)

I'm very embarrassed to be asking this...I don't have any kids and I've never held or touched a baby before.

Which end of the baby do you hold? Do you hold it by the feet or by the head? face up or down?

Please help, I may have a baby someday and I'm afraid I will drop it or worse!
