| This is what I did. I had to start changing things for myself first then I had to start changing things for them. They thought that I was punishing them because I totally cut out McD's. I tryed to explain to them that They could have what ever they wanted in the house but if they choose a sweet item then they not only had to brush thier teeth again but they had to eat it out side. That was my way of getting them to exercise. They loved that. They get a treat and play outside. They don't complain about McD's anymore but If I do get them take out I order for them. It may sound harsh to some people but in my house I have 5 boys against me. So mom has to rule.

There is lots of things you can do to weed out the junk food. I have done it...
more fruits.. slowly change the breads to a more whole wheat bread... pasta.. easy.. with sauce you can't tell if it is white or wheat...
when I bake brownies from a mix I use applesauce instead of oil.. works great.. I throw wheat germ in there too..  I also use egg whites instead of the entire egg...
one has to be sneaky with kids...

Yeah I don't mind Australia.............
Well I reckon that's pretty cool for one day's effort! Maybe if the other kids watched her eat it and wanted it too!!! Jealousy can work. 
My 8 year old son has never been to school and has escaped most peer pressure all together and the other night I asked him if he wanted icecream for dessert and instead he asked if he could have a carrot and a tomato...............BUT he's definitely "different"........
My 21 year old just brought home microwave popcorn (full fat of course) and she even said she'd looked at the "low fat" version and just couldn't do it!!! ROFL!

Australia? I'm jealous Anyhow, thank you for the great advise. Today I slipped a whole wheat bagel to my five-year-old and she didn't complain. That's some progress. I know it will be harder with the older kids. I'll try your idea of replacing one thing at a time.

Unfortunately (well not really but you get my drift!) I live in Australia. I use Woolworths Home shop and they deliver everything a normal supermarket would......groceries, meat, fruit, the whole shebang!
My daughter is 13 and I'm having the same issues as you are and I really don't want to let on she's getting a bit tubby but because of the homeschoolng we do do health as a subject so I get it in that way!
I love your idea of roller blading with her............I've got a stationary bike and if I use it for some reason my kids do too cause I guess it looks like fun!
With healthy eating habits it's hard isn't it? I've swapped anything I used to make with "white" products for wholegrain/brown such as rice and pasta and because they hate anything but white bread I found one that is high fibre/low GI that is "white" and they never even noticed the difference! I reckon maybe just slowly not buying some things and creeping the healthier stuff into the shopping over time???? Trail mix instead of fruit bars, a bit more fruit instead of biscuits all the time.............stuff like that.

Banish junk....I don't have the patience to home school......I give you A LOT of credit for that!!!!!! I never thought to shop online for groceries. What site do you use? Is your food delivered fresh? Man, the begging for treats drives me nuts and I usually give in. My daughter is 12 and she has started to put on some extra weight since we moved to Michigan due to being more sedentary in the winter and eating out of boredom. I haven't said anything to her because her self esteem is so important to me and this is a delicate subject with adolescent girls. I've stared taking her roller blading with me after dinner since the weather has gotten nice. We really enjoy each others company during this time. Any tips on helping her change her eating habits without making it obvious?

Homeschool or banish junk??? 
I did my shopping online too so there weren't any impulse buys or kids begging either!
Now I have my fingers crossed that it's going to work!!!!

This was my first shopping fortnight chic where I actually only bought healthy stuff right down to wholemeal flour and long grain brown rice...............NOW I'm going to see if the kids cope!
If it's not there they can't eat the junk AND if it's good enough for me I reckon it's good enough for them too.
I DO have the advantage of homeschooling though so they don't get quite so much peer-pressure.

It might be best while early in the game to get rid of all the junk, even their junk. It's not good for them anyway. You could also make sure and only buy sweets like cookies and stuff that your kids like and that you don't care for. That's one thing I do.
Plus, I keep a lot of the weight watchers, south beach diet and other low cal snacks in the house for me so when I'm tempted I'm sure to have those sitting there waiting to be eaten. Once I've fed myself something sweet I'm good to go!
