I agree with a previous poster, check out babyfit.com ~ it's the sister site to SparkPeople. They have basically the same resources as SP but related to pregnancy.

I was curious about this and just found this thread through the search. I'll keep these suggestions in mind.

Hi Mara,

It may seem silly to drop your current weight and get in great shape only to add the pounds back through your upcoming pregnancy but I promise you it's the route you want to take if you can. If you start eating healthy and making fitness a priority now, it will be easier for you to maintain that through out your future pregnancy. It will also be that much easier for you to bounce back into shape once your child arrives.

Here are two articles that I found in the Resource Center that I thought you may be interested in:

Considering Pregnancy

Getting Ready to Eat for Two

I hope this helps!

Be well,
Kelly

Thank, I appreciate the advice. It seems rediculous to try to lose 50 pounds by November just to turn around and get pregnant again lol I gained more of my baby weight after my c-section. The surgery and I didn't go well due to some out standing problems like kidney failure. That and I refused to eat in the hospital so when I got out 4 days later and did eat I swelled up and put alot of weight on from breastfeeding. no one tells you how much your appetite spikes when you breastfeed lol I was outeating my hubby which is no small feat lol Unfortunatley that weight sort of stuck and I'm still wondering if I'm having any lasting horomonal issues from my pregnancy that is inhibiting my weight loss. Which just reminded me I have to call the Dr. RIGHT NOW lol I think I will stick with spark, pregnant or not and see how it works for me. Maybe by then I'll have enough knowledge that I can maintain it on my own.

Most of my favorites where also available on babyfit.com site.
I did find out there about the range I needed to eat in, and double checked with my Dr. she confirmed.
Then I just set up my SP account to maintain mode (same starting and end weight) which gave me a range close to the BF and Dr. amounts. Then I logged all food here and kept track. I joined a challenge where you set your own goals. And each time I would set a goal not to GAIN this much weight by this date. I did figure out, that if they want to you to gain about 25-35 LBS it does work out to be about 1 LB per week by the time you find out you are preg. till delivery.
With my second I gained about 35-40 LBS. BUT The plus side, I was 20 LBS lighter when I started than with my first, AND I had just purchased new pants, and after my 6 week post pardom, I was still able to fit into them, even though I was 17 LBS heavier than when I first purchased.
You may also want to track your calcium intake to make sure you are getting enough.

I am also a part of babyfit. I signed up last year for some excersise tips for toning up after a c-section. I still get e-mails lol I find it helpful actually. They have just sent me an e-mail on finding a midwife, which I'm looking into to avoid medical interventions this time around. Namely a c-section. lol Hopefully you find some good avice on there. I can't quite recall if you fill in your calorie intake for the day. Thats that one part I love about spark. I'm less lilely to be "bad" if I know I have to see it in writing later lol

You probably could keep using this site and just increase your calories by 300/per day and reduce the intensity of your workouts, but I think that there is a similar site called babyfit.com that is especially for preg. women....hopefully I will posting there in a month or two.

My only concern is that I have entered a lot of foods (nutrition facts)into sparkpeople and may have to start over if I switch over to babyfit...I'll have to check into that next time I lurk on babyfit.

Hey, I was just wondering, can you use this site while you are pregnant for weght maintenence? I gained alot with my son cause I figured pregnancy was a good time to gorgoe, well, I'm paying for it now. My husband and I want to try for another in November, and I was wondfering you could maybe modify this site to eating and excersiing healthy while pregnant. I obviously don't want to lose the weight bu tI'd like to put it on better than I did with my son. In the first 4 months with my son I lost 40 pounds then gained 25 pounds in my 6,7,and 8th month and then lost 14 in my ninth. Made me very unhealthy. Anyways, any advice on that would be great. I'd like to be in gerat shape and health for my next still using this site.
