Well, I haven't completely lost it, but I am exhausted and looking foraward to going to work in the morning. His mother is taking him to Seattle for his two week check up and as much as I wish he would heal...I wish his mental state would go back to where it was.
I am tired.

I'd begin by preparing extra meals and freezing them that will be a little more time you'll have to help the one recouping there........As for the kids make sure you have plenty to keep them busy, quiet activities and if weather permits front yard ones too. Jumprope and kickball outside can be good exercise as well as somewhat 'quiet' outside as not to disturb the rest of the one recouping there. If you belong to any type of groups that maybe someone can bring in a dinner or meal they've already prepared that can be a big helper too, or someone you trust to take the kids to just play for a bit or take them to movies to the park or anything at all even just coming over to your place and playing with them for a few hours can be helpful there. It can be a bit for the children to adjust when you first bring home someone from surgery, they'll have questions for you to answer I'm sure and also need some extra reassurance at this time as well. You don't need to go into great details on the surgery with them, just something simple as in this "The doctors are helping _____ to get better and this needed to be done to keep ______ better." I've found with my kids the short and simple at times to be better than the lots of detail and specifics and if they have questions which I'm sure they will you'll want to make sure you work time for this in and most likely away from the person that is recouping too. Some of their questions you may not have answers to and that's ok be honest with them and let them know you don't know but you'll find out and let them know, and follow through, they're depending on you during that time...sometimes children can fear that whatever the one going through the process will happen to themselves and can be a scary time for them.....there are some good stories out there you can search for and share with them if needed there.
Hoping all works out the best possible there for you and that all goes well and your one facing surgery is well as soon as can be there :)
