Just find lower calorie recipes. I like to check out the Sparkrecipes.com and kraftfoods.com site and print some off, try them. For a family of 6 you may have to double the recipe. I have found a lot of pasta dishes on Kraft for around 350-450 calories for 2 CUPS of the item. 2 CUPS is HUGE on your plate. Others are 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups. Just watch them. Most have been pretty good in our house.
I also sometimes look for the lighter version of the item and just figure it as a bonus. I don't re-figure the recipe for the lighter version.

there are a lot of good ideas in the post about incorporating diet into your family.

For me, in the past week it's been really helpful to measure out my portions, no more eyeballing it here. All my food either gets weighed or measured. Yeah it takes a bit longer but I figure what's waiting a few more seconds to eat? My son even wants his rice measured out now too so it can be in a nice hill on his plate like mine. Adds to presentation at least :)

Make one night a week soup and sandwich night. Make a nice hearty home-made stew in the Crockpot early in the day, and put out a bunch of items so the kids can build their own sandwiches.
