Hi Brandy
YOu have to believe you will book presentations and you will! What you think about, you bring about. So if you think you won't, you won't! Does that make sense?

I know for me I just tell people who simple it is, have four-six people around the table. Don't worry about cleaning. Make it casual. I will even bring the snack sometimes.

Fortunately we have found a way to build a business without having to do the presentations, unless we want to. We let people try before they buy. Would that be possible for any of your products?

Offering incentives is really important. I give $100 in free products for every $250 in sales at the presentation. Then I give more incentives when people book presentations, etc.

Be creative. I know you can book classes....go for it!

How fun! I would definitely contact bridal salons to see if you can leave flyers there. Check out stores that sell invitations and see if you can leave flyers there too. Bridal consultants, party planners, anyone who has any connection to weddings is a good bet. Also, if there are bridal fairs in your area, get a booth. You'll meet other vendors who can tell their clients about your service. You can become very creative and work out deals with other vendors for bookings. Good luck and I bet you meet a lot of fun women!

my friend did that and Party Lite as the same time, she booked both and ended up making more in the long run. I know that some of the companies (Mary Kay) won't let you have any other independant business but if you can double up it saves others the time and trouble. My friends and I are partiaholic's! do fun things... like a "Dress your Banana" party, where everyone can take funny things and dress up a real banana then after they are done, judge, give prizes and have the hostess make up bowls of ice cream so everyone can then STRIP the banana and eat it... we did this and it was great fun and the hostess only had to get some candies, ice cream, soda and bananas, she had everyone bring one item to dress their banana and share.
another thing is to have a PAJAMA Party! There is nothing better after a long week than to hang out with your girls, in sweats (or PJ's) and slippers and have a fun party!
Good luck, you can do this!

I would try to get some bridal showers/bachlorette parties booked! You just present your stuff like you would a regular show. The bride can select stuff ahead of time and people can either purchace for her or for themselves (hopefully both) and then she gets all the hostess Goodies at the end! This would be great for second marriages and couples who have been living on their own for a long time who tend to have too much to combine and don't need toasters and dishes and such.

What product do you sell? That can totally determine how to approach your "market".

the combined party idea is great.

I sale Avon and I have friends who sale Tupperware and PArtylite, so we get together and do a group party. then we split the cost that way also and usually end up with new customers each time

we usually do a bingo theme and each of us give away prizes for the winners.
and how to get cards:
RSVP
for showing on time
invite a friend
bring outside orders
order $25 or more
book a party (2 cards)

then we have tables with some merchandise for them to look at or to buy especially the discontinued items

1. Depending on where the hostess works sometimes it is easier to have a "walk through" or "drop in" party at their work. You just set stuff up in a designated area and be available for a couple of hours to show off your products and answer questions and of course take orders.
2. You can check with local schools and churches for garage sales and bazaars and Saturday markets to see about getting a table. You may be able to offer fundraisers at the same time you call.
3. You can do a theme such as a tea or mocha night or chocolate night etc. Once we did one on a rainy Sat. afternoon and asked everyone to come in slippers and jammies and gave prizes for silliest slippers and rattiest bathrobe etc.
4. Mystery hostess --you have it in your home ask guests to bring friends and families and gather up orders ahead of time. The person who has the most sales and bookings through their friends gets to be the hostess and gets the hostess goodies!
5. Drop off brochures at all the atm's, beauty salons, heck even the barber shop--who do you think is taking their little boys for hair cuts?? CHECK YOUR LOCAL LAWS BEFORE YOU LEAVE AT ATM'S ETC.
6. Walk the track at your local school when they have baseball games or track meets and give out some brochures....
7. Team up with 2 or 3 other ladies who sell different products, (candles, beauty, kitchen) and have a great big party together--ALL of you combine your guest/customer list. Make sure to have a nice but simple treat for everyone--make it fun! BE SURE the other people have good reputations for service-you don't want to deal with your customers being upset cus they got bad service from someone you basically recommended.
All I can think of at the moment.....

What products do you sell?

I used to be an independent consultant and it was very hard getting the bookings. My leader recommended offering an incentive to your hostess to have bookings for you arrive at her house for her show. It could be something as simple as an extra % or $ amount off or a free product that isn't going to cost you very much. My leader also said to be upbeat and have your hostess tell why she wanted to host a party and have her tell all her friends what she is getting for "free". She also had the party attendees help set up the display as they arrived and that way they are actually touching the product. Or have them pick out what they like and then tell them how they can earn it for free.

I got out of it because my husband and I moved and once I chose not to have to "start over" again, as we moved 1300 miles away.

Good luck!!!

I always get Avon books in my mailbox.
Could you drop off some fliers or brochures of the product with your name and number on it either in mailboxes, or at other locations like bullitian boards at grocery stores.
Do you offer discounted or free products to anyone that hosts a show and brings in X amount of $$ at their show. I know I have been to a few and If your show sells $$$ you get so much off of the stuff the host wants to order. If there is a bunch of stuff from the catalog that I like, I host a show just to get the discounts. I got some free cooking pans from Princess house, and discounts on other crystal stuff also. I have found some Princess house stuff on E-bay COuld you set up an account with them and make sure to have a reserve price on it.

Hope you can find a way to make it work.

Hi Brandy,

I think that is the most difficult part of being an independent consultant. I don't have any personal experience in it but if you believe in the product, just keep trying. I hear that it takes a good three months to build a business such as that. While I don't know what it is specifically that you are selling...I wish you well in your new venture. Keep us posted on your success!

Kelly
