Good Morning!

Whew... can't imagine how busy you are with 4 kids, I have 2 that keep me plenty busy alongwith housework, babysitting for other people and I've now returned to school.

I schedule my day. Basically I made a list of household chores that need to be done each week and divided them up between the days. So M-F I have my list of chores that I do each day, I cross them off as I finish them. I also have added to my list, exercise. Since I have made the list and planned out what gets done each day I feel much less busy and I stay much more on top of the cleaning... my house actually looks clean most of the time. Plus by putting exercise on my list (it's the first thing each day) it keeps me from pushing it back to do other things. Oh and I put my list on the computer, I print my lists for 4-6 weeks at a time. I've left empty lines for extras that I need to do each week, like dr appts etc.

I also have started waking up an hour before I have to get the kids up so that I can exercise without interruption and without feeling like my house or family is being neglected...not to mention it gets done much faster without constant interruption. It's hard to adjust to at first, but it's nice to get it out of the way and have my whole day ahead of me to accomplish what needs to be done.

Hi Kristie:

I am the mother of 4 also so I understand the hectic-ness of your life! How old are your kids? I know when mine were younger, it was much harder to find the time to exercise than it is now that they are all in school.

This website has a number of articles under Fitness Resources about exercising with small children. You can always try to get your husband to help you in your efforts also. Ask him for a half hour when he first get home from work so that you can just go out for a walk or head to the gym, if that's within your means.

As for food, it takes changing everyone's food intake and that is actually easier with younger children. If they tend to be finicky, try replacing one food at a time until they are eating more healthy. Get rid of sweet and fatty snacks. Replace them with fruits. Wheat bread for white (they new fiber Wonder breads are great!) Have raw veggies at every meal, in case they don't like what you have cooked.

Be creative! Find a way to make the changes that will benefit your whole family! And stay active on this website - it's a wealth of information and encouragment to help you.

Best wishes as you progress!

Kristie it is rough to get the me time in. I wake up before everyone else to get workouts in. I also end up eating food while standing up because after waiting on everyone else it seems like I can't even sit down. I make getting in the minimum servings of certain foods per day a priority. You can also count some of that running around for your family toward your cardio. It will probably be listed under home or other activities. You should at least eat up to the low end of your calorie range everyday.
