I just started sparks about a week ago and I am also looking for friends and support. My name is Jen and I am also a preschool teacher :). I teach the Pre-K class and I love it. I have four children of my own ages 10, 9, 5, & 3. I love this web site and so far I have lost 2 lbs. I would really like to find some friends that I can help stay motivated and that can help me stay motivated as well.

One thing at a time is the only way to do it. Otherwise you will crash and burn.
I started with just eight minutes in the morning. You can do other exercises like park farther away from where you are going, take the stairs, more faster, you can even exercise in front of the class (be over expressive with your body), I think the kids will love it.
My guess is that kindergarten is bad because you have the kids having to adapt to a new way of living. (types of discipline, freedom to move when they want to)
If you do well with challenges, your challenge is to move faster in the morning so you can recover ten minutes to exercise. Pick one exercise from each category in the fitness section and do ten repetitions.

Ken,

So far I've just been eating within my recommended calorie range. I really want to start incorporating some exercise into my day but I'm having a really hard time doing it. I find every excuse not to do it. I'm also having a hard time drinking my water. The eating thing has become pretty easy for me as long as I go to the grocery store each week. One thing at a time I suppose!

Tina: I have a really unique job that I love. I teach a morning preschool class at a demonstration school on the campus of a local university. Each classroom has observation booths so that the students from the university or community members (or parents) can watch the classroom and teachers. I have a very diverse classroom and have children from all socio-economic backgrounds, children with disabilities, and children who are second language learners. The other half of my day I spend doing research. The "official" research project that I'm doing right now involves developing and testing curriculum based measures for preschoolers. In that study we also looked at the types of instruction that are most beneficial for young children. I've also done a bit of research into children's superhero and gun play in the classroom and on children's social competence. I also teach special ed courses and curriculum courses for the university to associate and bachelor level college students.

I think I manage it all because I have ADHD and I have tremendous amounts of energy. Now if only I could use that energy to make myself exercise!!!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for kindergarten teachers. That is the age group that I feel is most difficult. I loved teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, and preschool is my favorite but I did not like Kindergarten!

Hi Jenni,
What are you doing to overcome your weight obstacle? Some of the same things that work for your other goals will work for weight loss.

Hi...my name is Jenni. I just joined Sparkpeople about 3 weeks ago. So far I love it!!! I've lost 8 pounds so far. I'm 34 and a single mom. I have two kids, ages 12 & 16. I noticed one of the posts on home daycare and that interested me so I thought I'd post here. I am a preschool teacher now (among other things) but did family child care for 7 years. I went back to school and now have my Master's degree in child development and my Pre-K through 3rd grade teaching license. I teach preschool half day and do research the other half of my day. I also teach part time for a university. I'm really looking forward to getting to know some of you on here!

Jenni
