| Just thought I'd bump this one up now that it's summer. :) Maybe there are some more starting homeschooling in the fall?

| I make sure to leave time open in our daily schedule for 'open play' time, which usually involves the two of them running around...plus we do more structured activity by either going to the Y, dancing, walking, or more phy-ed type stuff. I notice that our local Y has a homeschooler's phy ed class now, so when my kids are old enough I will be enrolling them.

Cool thing you are doing. We are ALL homeschoolers actually.
In your program, do you allow for at least 90-120 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity?

My husband is a Public School teacher. He teaches 9th -12th graders. I HS our daughter. She is in 3rd grade. If the public schools were better I would send her but my dh is there everyday and sees what kind of education these kids really get. The No Child Left Behind program is such a joke. It leaves all the average and above average kids behind. teachers have to dumb down what they teach so the LD kids can pass. My dh has a LD student in the 11th grade who has to have his tests read out loud to him because he can not read. So why is he in a regular class room???? My dh has to let the other 22 kids watch a movie so he can test this one kid.

| We are secular homeschoolers as well. I started off wanting to homeschool my kids, and my decision was cemented when I could not get any help from the people in the local school district before it was even time to think about enrolling my child. I knew then I was making the right decision. :)

| Hi, We don't homeschool for religious reasons either. I love all the opportunities it gives for my kids to follow their interests. I have only been on sp for less than a week but not sure if you know there is a homeschool board too.

Just curious if there are other spark families out there who are not homeschooling for religious reasons.
We homeschool because we love giving our children the opportunity to follow their passions. We are also lucky to have a large and open homeschooling community in the area, which makes it easier to do what we do.
Anyone else?
