Shauna, here's what I'm doing and so far it IS working;

Take a piece of fruit and a full bottle of water with you when you leave. That way you can sip on the water and if you get hungry, eat the fruit. You could do the same with a snack bar, but personally those don't work for me. I'm also a gum chewer. That helps too.

I sit down and plan my meals for the entire week and print it out. That goes in the frig and I mark off what I've eaten. If I know I'm going to be running my head off a certain day, I'll add in a fast food choice, usually Subway. That way I don't feel that I have 'cheated'. It's not the best choice of foods, but until I can break that cycle, it's realistic.

Add the food you ate, the jr. cheeseburger and small fries to your food tracker. Be totally honest with yourself, good or bad. Then take a look and think of other ways you would do it different next time.

I know it's hard when your stomach is rumbling and the fast food is calling out to you. It does that to me too. Actually, the craving is as bad as an ex-smoker's craving for a cigarette. Seriously! And when it happens to me and I want to turn into the drive-thru but don't, I really feel like I've accomplished something. If I give in to the craving, I mark it all down. Don't beat yourself up over it, we all do it one time or another. We have to wean ourselves away from it. One day we'll get to the point where we will be turned off from the smell of it too.

Keep plugging away, little by little...

I have my profile image, my virtual me at my goal weight, taped to the glove box in my car. It reminds me that if I want to see that day, I can't be stopping for fast food = )

Remember how you felt after eating it. Was it worth it, money wise, calorie wise, fat wise? Keep that thought in your head next time you want to get fast food.

A suggestion: have a stash of nuts in your car and a bottle of water. Eat a small handful on your way home.

For me, I just know that fast food is BAD and I always feel sick after eating it, so I only eat it as a very last resort. I also tell myself that if I want fast food I have to pay cash for it and then I never carry cash! My downfalls are Papa Murphy's pizza and a little taco stand that sells the best 1 POUND (Yikes!) burritos. I don't get sick when I eat these and it IS worth it every once in a while.

Anyway, that is in the past. Today is a new day!

i try not to cheat but after everyone is asleep in my house it is hard to make the right choices. But it is getting a little bit better, since i haven't purchased any of those not so good for you foods. i try to use some health receipes from the web site.

Try not to be so hard on yourself. If you haven't already done so, start journaling your food in the daily food tracker. This really helps me be accountable for what I choose to eat. When I can see all the calories/fat/carbs/protien in front of me, it really helps me stay focused on making better choices for myself.

We have all had days where we don't pay attention and don't make all the "right/good" choices for ourselves. And that is ok! Today is another opportunity to start fresh.

Hang in there and keep smiling!

Fast food is very addictive and that is a hard one to break but it can be broken. When I started eating fast food and junk food on a regular basis my weight soared and it was very hard habit for me to break. Now I can't even stand the smell of it but it was a painful habit to break.
